Fitting brakes to a Boardman TK Pro

Posted on
  • I recently picked up frame, fork and wheels off a lightly used Boardman TK Pro. It came with a sealed bag containing a set of Tektro brakes and levers. But, the wheels do not appear to have a machined braking surface? I find it surprising that a company such as Boardman would sell a frame with drilled holes for brakes, and a set of brakes, with a wheel-set that cannot use rim brakes?

I happily admit to being ignorant when it comes to fixed/single speed knowledge, but before I do something stupid can anyone confirm the standard TK Pro wheels are OK to take a rim brake? (I have confirmed they are the original wheel set Mavic CXP-22S clincher rims).

    Ta, Vimes.

  • They’re probably just anodised. They’ll not stay black once you start braking on them but probably fine. Post a picture of the rim for a definitive answer.

  • Cheers. Will do.
