  • Does anyone have a Seiko 5 (or similar) they're looking to move on? Would like to get something subtle and simple for my Dad's birthday but don't want new or buy from the many, many, many listed on eBay from India.

  • Austin Kaye the Strand and Burlington(?) Arcade. If they're happy to go a bit further there are a couple of places in Clarkenwell near Old St X St John's street.

Might want a second opinion, but iirc Austin Kaye is meant to be trustworthy but not cheap.

    @ricky2slicky - cheers.

  • Just got this one back from rodabod.
A full movement transplant and new glasses.

    Thanks so much!

  • What movement?

  • Interesting... I need a movement transplant for my SKX that got dropped. Still runs but date quick-set is borked.

  • Cheers, I'll post what he buys

  • Got the 'beater' on today. 😋

  • Just found out that there is a Seiko Boutique here in Miami.

If any of you guys wanted me to pick something up, give them a call to reserve and I'll bring it back with me.

  • You should snag a Marine Master 300 if they have one... It was also abruptly discontinued last week.

  • Is it really discontinued....? Apart from one blog post on Seiyajapan there has been no other 'news' announcing it (apart from other blogs referencing Seiya).

  • Originally a 7S26 which was wrecked by shards of broken crystal. Now an NH36 which is the same, but has manual winding and hacking seconds. I actually had to buy two new NH36 movements because the first one wasn’t adjusted very well from the factory at the balance. Crystal is now a curved one instead of flat.

  • How have people found Chrono24 for moving along their watches? I have two that I'm thinking of posting to drum up some funds for a Christopher Ward I have my eye on. Both to the tune of £250ish. Steinhart Ocean One and 1970s Omega Geneve. Both are on eBay but not much interest regardless of the prices which I think are pretty agreeable, have taken nice photos too.

  • Cool. Is it fairly straightforward, or do you need some proper skills?

I've got a Seiko 5 ( SNZG09K1 3 o'clock crown) that has a slightly iffy crown and like the idea of a hacking manual wind.

  • used it to sell my planet ocean and then to buy a speedmaster. all went well.

  • It takes quite a lot of practice to do it well, but a beginner might be successful if they are quite practical and have a good step-by-step guide. The tools are not cheap. I find Seikos quite difficult sometimes because the parts can be quite flimsy compared to Swiss watches.

  • What is there available in the way of sub £1,000 (preferably sub £500) dual time watches?

Not a dive watch style but easy apart from that. I was expecting a cheap Seiko to be available but I can only see very nice but very pricey Grand Seikos.

  • I've already got a fair number of Seikos, looking for something with an independent 24 hour hand for a second time zone whilst I save up for an Explorer II (admittedly that bit may never happen).

This is actually on Creation Watches for £120 but sounds a bit big at 43.5mm

  • Yeah, most budget GMTs from what I've seen are pretty gash. Hamilton Jazzmaster GMT is nice and within your budget though, kinda.

  • Anything on Timefactors?

  • What CW are you thinking of getting?

  • @panic nice one, cheers for that.

I've seen a used C60 Trident "mk2" so date at 3 o'clock, guilloche face, old logo, ceramic bezel insert. It's the one to have I reckon. This one has a white face, black insert and a black croc strap (factory). I'd prefer black face with black insert and a bracelet but I think I can get it for good money. Ultimately it would go on a NATO anyway.

  • Nice, I've got a mk1 (black, black, bracelet) have been tempted to sell a couple times as I don't wear it enough, but can't bring myself to do it.

I prefer it on a NATO than the factory bracelet, let me know if you ever want to sell the croc strap (assuming you get it).

  • Farer GMT
