  • This is amazing btw. Can u list the items used? 😎

  • Do you mean the items in that set-up?
If so it’s a Korg LittleBits set, Korg Volca Beats, Pocket Operator Arcade, and a Atari Punk Console all plugged into a Bastl Dude mixer and then into a guitar amp.

  • Chaps, I'm hoping for a bit of guidance/ recommendation...

I have a MacBook Air. I have Logic Pro X.

I'm looking to get a midi controller, something compact for travel, 25keys, a few drum pads would be nice but not essential. Ideally something idiot proof in terms of plug in and go with Logic and preferably something with decent feel and quality rather than Fisher Price spec.

Korg Nanokey (perhaps include a Nanobeats), Arturia Keystep (also Beatstep) and Akai MPK have caught my eye.

I also need an audio interface. I've been thinking an Apogee One? I just want to be able to plug in a guitar or a microphone. It would be nice to have the capacity to record stereo or two inputs but really not critical for now.

I'm not hugely tech savvy. Be gentle with me.

  • I'm flogging an Akai MPK Mini if you fancy buying it? Say about £30?

I was very tempted by the Apogee One. The built in mic sounds lovely, and apogee converters are always excellent. But if you want to plug in a guitar/mic (i.e. if you already own a mic) it might £200 quid you don't need to spend - you could get a Focusrite with simultaneous guitar and mic in for under £90. I've not used that Focusrite but they've pretty much got the budget interface market sewn up, their pres are great, and their ADDA conversion is good too.

    Anyway hope this helps dude.

  • For what you're looking for you can't go wrong with an MPK mini. I've got an Akai Advance its fantastic well worth a look into also

  • MPK Mini sounds like the business! I'll PM you now!

I was looking into the Focusrite also but I've got a pal who's a mega studio boffin and he basically reckons the Focusrites are utter muck and really peaky and there's no use in having to buy knowing you're going to want to upgrade soon. His actual advice is to buy a second-hand Apogee Duet but owing to my bad luck with tech stuffs I'd if like to have a warranty so I think the One is the (one pardon the pun).

  • S/h Duet 2 is a good call. Love love love mine.

  • I'd go Universal Audio Apollo Twin if you can, get all those lovely plugins

  • Looks lush but budget won't allow for it at the moment!

  • Was going to get an old duet and synch them into a 4 input rig at some point.

  • First twenty minutes of this is all hardware sequenced on the fly by Ableton Push 2 sending MIDI via a MIDI thru box.

    Kit list:
Electribe, Korg Volca Bass, Korg Volca Keys, Waldorf Blofeld, Roland Boutique TB03, Roland Boutique VP3, Roland AIRA TR-8. Mixed via Roland AIRA MX-1 with a TC Electronic Flashback Triple Delay and an Eventide Space on the send/return

  • Started this one yesterday if anyone fancies a listen and can give some criticism. Some kind of 2006-2008 dubstep/2step vibe. https://clyp.it/b53fvah2

  • Recent efforts by the band in which I am bass-plunker. I’ve been playing with them for a few months now and I’m still not sure which pigeon hole to crow-bar it into. There’s probably a little Jonathan Richman going on, though.

  • Anyone interested in a Roland AIRA TR-8 with the expansion packs (606/707)

Boxed, perfect condition, PSU and manual

    £265 posted

  • I done another techno track. Well, it's actually based on an old track but sufficiently different to be new:

  • ^ love it!

I got this just done, will be looking for a label for it plus a couple more in same vein I have yet to mixdown

  • First thing I've done in ages, some sort of industrial? Made without a computer except for final limiting/compression, definitely no dogma tho.

    Another one, more pop

  • Would anyone be interested in an M-Audio ProjectMix I/O?
I'm downsizing my studio, and this is surplus to requirements. I no longer need 18 inputs or a hardware control surface.

And on the downsizing note, I was thinking of a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 to replace it. Are these the small budget audio interface of choice?

  • Morning all

    Flogging a few bits:

    Akai Mini MPK Mk1: £25

    Novation Launchkey 49: £50

Also THINKING about flogging my Fender Jaguar for £600. It's 2000s, Crafted in Japan, sunburst, and while it looks totally stock, it's got handwound bareknuckle pickups, an upgraded trem arm which doesn't flop about, and the pickups are wired so you can flip them into humbucking mode if you fancy a more gutsy sound. The treble pots have been upgraded too so it can do everything from earsplitting Jaguar brightness to Strat-esque mellow cleans. Comes with separate upgraded Mustang bridge if you prefer to run thinner strings, and the original trem arm. Its a total workhorse and I love it but I'm trying to downsize.

  • Tempted by the Akai Mini if it isn't too expensive to post to Oz... I need a new, small keyboard, no drivers anymore for my old one... 😐

  • Anyone got more than they expected in the latest PRS distribution? I seem to have about £300 more than normal, which is usually fuck all, and there's no indication why. Are they doing one of their free money giveaways?

  • I've stopped looking at mine since they dwindled to a footling amount. A couple of years ago a new royalty cheque was new guitar time. Now it's just a reminder that i'm going to lose half a day in January doing a pointless net zero tax return. Meh. Maybe you've become big in Japan?

  • I'm trying to re-boot my enthusiasm for playing, writing and producing after a 6 month hiatus. My old band, which was really just a couple of mates I'd hoodwinked into playing my folk-pop nonsense, ended in December and I've been having a bit of think about what I want to do.

Initially I had all these ideas about doing something totally different, skronky krautrock and droney garage rock etc. I'd still love to so something like that but the reality of my situation means that, for now at least, whatever I do needs to be something I can do alone, from home in the evenings. To that end I've decided to retain ELVRS as a going concern. I'll just shift it towards whatever it is that i happen to be doing. It's not like there's a huge fanbase that will be confused by my shift in focus!

What I'm into at the moment I think is more of the stripped down solo acoustic recordings I started toying with at the back end of last year. I wrote some blurb on here about trying to spend as much time as possible getting the input as good as I can possibly get it and keeping processing to a bare minimum. That will remain the focus I think. I'd really like to do some filming as well. Not that I long to see my increasingly craggy face on the youtoobs, but I just get the impression that to stand any chance of reaching anyone with yr music it needs to be through a visual medium. Strange days.

Anyway, that's where I am. Writing again but verrrrry slowly. Must give myself more time and focus to finish ideas and get them out there. Current work in progress I'd like to get done this week. It's very definitely in the Nick Drake mould. Got some ideas for lyrics but need to devote some quality time to sitting down in peace and quiet to finish it. Easier said than done with a busy job and three year old and pregnant wife needing attention.

Will get there though. It's been far too long.

  • Assuming he means that they're opposite polarity so when both are engaged it's hum-cancelling. Unless they're stacked single coils of course...

It is a sweet looking guitar. [STOCKREPLY]I'd be all over it if I wasn't broke[/STOCKREPLY]

  • Fatberg's got it - when you flip the switch the pickups go from being standard coiled to being wierd (in series? in opposition? something like that) which effectively makes the two single coils work similarly to a single humbucker. I believe (not 100% as I didn't do it) it's this mod:
