• Chaps, I'm hoping for a bit of guidance/ recommendation...

I have a MacBook Air. I have Logic Pro X.

I'm looking to get a midi controller, something compact for travel, 25keys, a few drum pads would be nice but not essential. Ideally something idiot proof in terms of plug in and go with Logic and preferably something with decent feel and quality rather than Fisher Price spec.

Korg Nanokey (perhaps include a Nanobeats), Arturia Keystep (also Beatstep) and Akai MPK have caught my eye.

I also need an audio interface. I've been thinking an Apogee One? I just want to be able to plug in a guitar or a microphone. It would be nice to have the capacity to record stereo or two inputs but really not critical for now.

I'm not hugely tech savvy. Be gentle with me.

  • I'm flogging an Akai MPK Mini if you fancy buying it? Say about £30?

I was very tempted by the Apogee One. The built in mic sounds lovely, and apogee converters are always excellent. But if you want to plug in a guitar/mic (i.e. if you already own a mic) it might £200 quid you don't need to spend - you could get a Focusrite with simultaneous guitar and mic in for under £90. I've not used that Focusrite but they've pretty much got the budget interface market sewn up, their pres are great, and their ADDA conversion is good too.

    Anyway hope this helps dude.

  • For what you're looking for you can't go wrong with an MPK mini. I've got an Akai Advance its fantastic well worth a look into also
