  • Will I come a cropper trying to use a '10 speed' triple front derailleur with an 8 speed cassette and chain?

  • Is the Stopbus i.p.v. trein in the Netherlands a bus or a train?

Trying to work out how to get to Hoogeveen and this crops up on the directions.

  • i.p.v. means instead of. And we have stopbussen and snelbussen, the first will stop at every town and village whereas the snelbussen go from city to city.

So you'll be on a bus, sadly.

The Dutch Railways have a pretty decent website in English: https://www.ns.nl/en

  • If your body is as broken as mine, I think you'd benefit from a bike fit before deciding on that new bike. I had 1 done last year as part of my bespoke bike order (well, I had to pay extra for that...) and the tiny adjustments were amazing... even as simple as changing small angles of the handlebars and how far apart the brake levers should be etc... It's a lot of money, I paid £175 with Tony at Cloud 9, but it is worth every penny...

Tony took into consideration my injuries and pain and so we recreated the pain during the session so we know what positions / parts to avoid...

And once it's done, you'd have the messurement for good...

  • Has anybody over here got experience organising and/or leading shop rides? I've been tasked with figuring out a programme for Spring/Summer for a local community bike shop.

I've got routes and graphics sorted out and feel pretty good to go but does anyone have any tips? It's going to be a super inclusive all ages/bodies/abilities kinda deal so I'm a bit worried about how to make sure nobody gets left behind...

  • I had a slow puncture on way in, just taken the tyre off the rim to fit a new tube and the tyre now seems like it is too big for the rim. can't get the bead to stay seated the whole way around, as I do one side the other just pops out.

    anyone know how to fix?

    checked bead and seems ok.

it's a 35c so there's a lot of side wall which i think is allowing it to elongate as I cant get the tube up to a high enough psi to get it take it's proper shape before it deforms and pops off again.

  • Zip ties or toe straps or similar to hold one side in place whilst you do the other is what I go for. Should snap into place as you pump up.

  • thought zip ties might be the way.

    so fucked off.

stuck my studded winter tyres on last night in anticipation of snowpocalypse and gf was moaning about some non existent dirt on floor because she was actually stressing about her job interview this morning and as a result I missed doing the final tightening on my front axle nuts after I put the wheel on because I was arguing with her instead.

had a wobble in the bike on ride in and noticed my rear wheel was low on air so stopped to check it out. figured it was a slow puncture so topped it up again to get from oval -> clerkenwell. then noticed one of my front nuts was missing completely.

walked all the way from oval to clerkenwell, got new inners and an axle nut from LMNH.

take wheels off bike and bring them up to office to change inner tubes (doing both wheels as the valves on current ones are bit to short for the rims)

now the fucking things wont go back on

and it hasnt even fucking snowed.

  • so the zip ties help get the bead in place, but as soon as I inflate past about 30psi it just pops out again, it's like theres 1cm too much beading so when it's in place it just pushes the bottom of the tyre away from the rim. at one point i though it was going to ping into place, but no it pinged but straight out again. :(

  • cunt cunt cunt cunt cunt. got it on, inflated, seated, cut off all 20 cable ties, looks perfect, breath on it. ping, pops off again.

I am going to go fucking postal in a minute.

  • Tyre bead might be fucked.

  • Just ride it with all the zip ties still on

  • tyre bead is fucked. even tried another tube from a different brand in case.

so fucking annoying. stuck with no way of getting home now unless i go buy a 35c tyre I don't actually want and of course now it does start snowing.

  • Get an Uber, go home and order pizza. Hugs might also help.

  • so i went down to put my wheels back on the bike so it didn't look like an abandoned frame (2 people had already locked directly to it this morning when popping into the shops as I can see it from my office window), glossing over the fact I forgot my keys the first time so had to go all the way back up to my desk to get them I was trying to do the quick release on my front brake back up and managed to pull the cable out of the grip nut so now I have to fix my fucking brake as well.

much like heldring has said I just sent my client an email saying I give up on today and will instead do a full day on site on thursday instead (i've literally not done any work at all trying to get this sorted). now i have to go brave the thameslink to morden with a broken bike in tow.

fuck this specific day in particular.

  • I'd drop it off at the nearest bike shop, taxi home, kebab and then finish off with PornHub to make up for it.

  • Does anyone recognise this fork crown?

  • Thanks, you've put me on the right track there, looks like it's for 28.6 steerers so must be the B35 variant then!

  • It shouldn't require snow tyres.

  • I nearly lost my front wheel just riding on the cs7 paint after it had rained with my normal tyres, I had em, thought I might as well stick em on. Wish I hadn't bothered.

  • Cheers. I think that's convinced me to pass that job onto someone who can drive.

  • Conditions on my ride this morning were truly terrifying. Its a miracle I made it back alive.
