  • Is Corbyn actually saying 'remain by stealth'?

Does it sound to anyone else like he's properly preparing his voters little by little to a remain position that Labour will eventually take? Once you convince them of a customs union, it's not a big leap from there to show that the SM is sensible too, and once there (and once the Tories have continued to damage and rule out any alternative)...

Not sure if I believe this (and I certainly don't appreciate the ambiguity), but it doesn't sound impossible.

  • As a remainer I'm coming round to this being either a full on 'in' or a full on 'out'.

You're right, and that's a perfectly legit position to have. I guess I should have said "Soft-Brexit supporter" instead of "remainer."

  • Given

He added: "Labour respects the result of the referendum and Britain is leaving the EU. "

It would be a trick well played

  • Liam Fox, the international trade secretary, added: “This is a cynical attempt by Labour to try and frustrate the Brexit process and play politics with our country’s future – all the while, betraying millions of Labour voters.”

When before has disgraced ex-Defence Secretary Liam Fox ever shown any interest in Labour voters?

  • Won’t twitter just die already

  • I have been thinking about this, and I think the outcomes we should seek are either full-remain, or the hardest of Brexits, anything in-between is going to be worse than we have now with no potential of it getting better.

Hard Brexit would be such a cataclysm that his parishioners might eat JRM.

  • Hard brexit means massive problems in NI. It may shock the place into "catching itself on" or just lead to pointless violence.

But yes an in-between fudge is really useless.

  • What are the implications for the UK of breaking the GFA? It's an international treaty to which we are (IIRC, but may be wrong) a guarantor?

Surely we would face some censure for fucking it off simply to wallow in destruction?

  • You remember Campagnolo?

  • Non-sequitur of 2018 award goes to Fussballclub, or I'm missing something significant.

  • We'll breaking the GFA would result in a "strongly worded letter" from the UN, a severely pissed of republic of Ireland, politics chaos and potential violence in NI but do they actually care? Dunno.

  • Putting aside all the problems it would unleash for a moment, what do we think it would do for our ability to negotiate amazing trade deals? How trustworthy would you rate a partner who was prepared to sacrifice peace for ideology?

  • I like the cycling info from this site, but it's a rather an insular bubble.

Congratulations @Dammit. The only answer is clear.

  • Which would be?

  • Cancel Brexit, anyone still in favour is a moron.

    /nailed it

  • Emigrate to Europe.

  • Not far to go then?

  • It would really harm trade deals with the EU and also the USA.

But by now this lot looks like they just don't...care. They keep changing their minds, the EU doesn't know what they are at, it's a bit baffling really.

  • The brexit echo chamber don't seem to have realised that dePfeffel was handed a 'Fail' for his supposed reconcilliation speech, and has the whiff of yesterday's man(child) about him.
With brexit having a thin squad, he was sent out again today to rebut the plausible claim that Corbyn's speech 'solved' the NI/RoI border by remaining in a/the Customs Union.
Instead it just reinforced the view that this slob of man just cannot do detail.

Let's see what drivel/thin gruel the disgraced ex-Defence Secretary Fox dishes up today.

  • With brexit having a thin squad, he was sent out again today to rebut the plausible claim that Corbyn's speech 'solved' the NI/RoI border by remaining in a/the Customs Union.

Was that the one where he compared the Irish border to nipping briefly out of the borough of Westminster. Perfect analogy that will go down great in places that aren't London-centric.

And which won't go down in London well either because everyone here thinks he's a colossal imbecile.

  • Yep,
    here, https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/feb/27/boris-johnson-likens-post-brexit-irish-border-checks-to-congestion-charge
    and some reactions, here,
    https://www.theguardian.com/politics/blog/live/2018/feb/27/brexit-former-international-trade-department-chief-dismisses-foxs-case-for-leaving-customs-union-politics-live

He seems to forget/never knew/was never bothered that number plate cloning was a problem for the Congestion Charge,
    and,
that devious/crooked/organised crime might be moving people (with no right to enter the UK), or food/chemicals/manufactures (that do not meet UK regulations).

  • BBCR4 WatO
Just challenged the figure quoted by dePfeffel and the disgraced Fox for a claimed trade surplus with South Korea of £25bn.
An official body, sorry no recollection of name, puts it at less than £1bn.

  • Re Labour.

At the moment they are managing the split within their party on Europe better than the Tories. Jeremy Corbyn and others from that wing of the party are lukewarm about Europe and see it as an impediment to Socialism.
It's noticeable that some of JCs fans see Brexit as a distraction from the real issues. I think that's because dealing with Brexit is a bit more challenging than protesting about how unfair the world is.

  • Has this been res... hahahahahaha
