Actually I just thought of a reason those buttons would be useful. When the Garmin 1000 screen gets wet it stops responding to finger swipes, etc. Yeah, I know, a cycling computer that doesn't work if it's wet. FFS Garmin! Anyway, those buttons would mean I could stop it fucking my display up when I'm riding in the rain.
The shifter hood buttons are rather handy for that - it's like having the Garmin remote but without the orrible lump on the side of the shifters. The only problem IME is that it works fine for a few hours in the rain, then water gets into the Garmin if it's heavy rain, and it borks.
That would be useful for my Exposure light. I've always wanted to be able flash people (yes, that kind too). No good for my Supernova though, it's on full beam but pointed down all the time. Remote control of my helmet light would be kinda cool.
