@Hulsroy weighs more than me and has recommended Tektro CR720 for my tandem. They are supposedly not shit, when set up correct. Cheap too.

I'll back up @JurekB - Avid Shorty Ultimates are by far the best cantilevers I've used. The set up procedure takes a while to master, but it's well explained in the instructions SRAM provide. The level of power and modulation is far, far superior to any others.
