Basic/cheap 650b/27.5 disc wheelset?
Needs to be 135/qr rear (front doesn’t matter as long as 100 spaced) and preferably centerlock.

Anyone got a set of 650b x 1.5 tyres nearing the end of their service that they'd like to sell on?
I'd like to try a set out for size before spending 'new tyres' money... Cheers!

What do people think of these:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/schwalbe-kojak-slick-tyre-raceguard/rp-prod24794
compared to 1.5" Gravel Kings? (or ameys 1.75 if I measure and think they'll fit the frame)
they are about half price of new GKs, verry tempting...

i've got the 26" folding version, on super wide rims, they're lovely to ride. super light and fast, i'm planning on some ghetto tubeless action in the summer.

I’ve been using the 650b, 35mm version since December for mostly town riding. They seem tough and ride well.
They are basically a beefed up Durano (which are ace training tyres).

I don’t think the 1.5” version is available in 27.5 is it?

After some advice/knowledge if anyone can help. After a long while with a ruler I think I can squeeze some ~47mm 650b tyres into my Charge Plug 5 (the older steel one, with a Kaffenback fork).
The question is, which would be the tyre of choice, WTB Horizon (47mm) or Panaracer GravelKing (1.9"/48mm)? Weight/tubeless ability/tread look pretty much comparable, any difference in ride quality? They will be mounted tubeless on Crests if that makes any difference. Ta!

I found the Horizons had a sweet spot between skidhappydeathbringer and collapsed sidewalls but it was too narrow for me to be arsed with them for very long. They went up tubeless very easily but overall they were pretty underwhelming.
Can't comment on gravel kings.

I’ve used horizons/byways and 1.5 gravelkings, I’ve found all to be great. Pretty much as good as compass tyres but with way better puncture protection.

Great, thanks both. Think I'll go for Horizons purely on looks.

Found horizons to be a pain in the butt to get onto/off the rim. Gravelkings have been more forgiving and easy.

glad to hear that as i'll be setting some up soon!

I had a similar experience with the 700c x 45 WTB Riddlers. I found them impossible to fit the my rim evenly. They would always wobble. I returned them and went for 43 Gravelkings which fitted instantly.
A few days ago I tried to fit WTB Horizons to my 650B wheel set using an airshot. Took me about 8 tries to seat them evenly. I am seriously considering to switch to Gravelkings here as well. -

got byways (knobby horizons) up with soap water and track pump. Rear (with somewhat more shobby gorilla tape tubeless job) required some sealant to set up and seal, but they both snapped in place quite quickly when up.

did anyone order excess 32h Pacenti TL28s from Planet X? While I've been suffering wheel woes they've sold out and completely scuppered my backup plan :(
Only need the one

Did you check the CL/SL25 as well? Might not match if you've got a TL28 already.
-
• #1697
Yeah, I have one TL28 (the other was pringled mountain biking). And I want the 23mm width

26 > 650b camp bike, in hindsight maybe I should've found a bigger frame 🤷 this stem is pretty dumb.

Love it!

Am I right that someone on here has previously done a 650b conversion on a Pompetamine? I trawled the thread last night, but couldn't find any reference to it.
No worries :) Will pm on Monday.
