Depends on your workflow I guess.
When I worked as a commercial photographer we did 99% of out editing right in Capture One as raw development, so I can understand why someone would want really fine control over their raw files.
There are lot of ways to make good looking BWs.
When I want control I'll do a gradient maps (bw) and then control contrast with curves or levels in PS.
