What are the current recommended go to have no problem with disc brakes for a road bike?
I have the Juin Techs which are good but could be better. Any SRAM rival I have seen have lever problems. Most shimano seem to have leaky calipers.

DA rim brakes. If you want zero maintenance discs then shimano mtb stuff. Faultless drop bar discs dont yet exist

I'd bet Campag brakes will require less faff than any of the SRAM/Shimano stuff; probably costly though.
Otherwise; Shimano, bin the calipers and replace them with Hope.
It's a shame TRP don't release a Spyre V2 to fix the issues as they stop fine and are reliable.

Given they have comparatively naff all experience of hydraulic shiz - and probably fewer patents - I would be pleasantly surprised if this was the case.

The fact they took so long to release them (and that Campag stuff generally wears well) , I'd hope they'd be better. I also believe they partnered up with Magura to design them.
The thing is, Shimano have made shite brake calipers for decades and they've not done anything about it. As for SRAM, hopefully they're better than Avid used to be.....

Magura made some awful kit too - including a master cylinder design where if you put the bar clamp on upside down the clamp screw pierced the reservoir. Amazing.
Another anecdote that supports the theory that getting light, compact, ergonomic and effective hydraulic bicycle brakes right is simply bloomin’ difficult. None of it works as consistently and is as durable & tolerant as a cable driven rim brake caliper.
Hats off to campag if they cracked it though.

Yeh, agree w/regards to Magura.
Some of Hopes older brakes were ropey, but apparently they make decent kit these days (for the off roaders of course); reliable and rebuildable.
That's the problem with a leaking Shimano caliper, you have to warranty it and then you're without a bike for a week or two. Plus you've got to fuck about bleeding (and often rebleeding).
Juin Tech have been alright for me, have a spare Spyre caliper to put on when one of them inevitably goes tits up.

I'd bet Campag... ... will require less faff ...
Said no-one ever.
TBF I have no first-hand experience of Campag discs, but that's because I do have first-hand experience of other things Campag and that experience dictates that I'll choose the path of least resistance.

Yeah the Tech3 X2s I had were great. Dot fluid but great.
To Magura’s credit the new MT stuff is good. I’d like to try that Rotor UNO group they co-designed.

Haha!
TBH, Campag fucked it all up when they introduced PowerTorque (now dropped) and Powershift (fragile shite). Shit quality stuff that they should never have made. The Ultrashift stuff is very durable though, as are their other moving parts. You still see people riding it these days.
I've not used any Shimano stuff since the last gen 10 speed, which was a poor experience. I'd love some hydraulic discs if they were reliable, but ATM it looks risky.

I'd be interested to know how many road disc calipers shimano have shipped. Mine have been flawless and I wonder if the number of people reporting issues with their calipers is a ring proportion of the number of people using them

Much like PreCursas cracking 'all the time'. But as a % of the PreCursas that have been sold probably no different, or even better than other frames. Especially how theyre generally ridden into the ground

Early generation probably, the Shimano MTB stuff have been pretty reliable, but can't says what their first gen MTB brakes were like as I wasn't a mechanic back then.

Best replacement pads for TRP Spyres, combined with 105 levers and Jagwire compressionless?
-
• #4666
Cheap Shimano resin (shimano bs01 for instance)

Wunderbar

Does anyone have any experience with TRP Spyres crunching/clicking/slipping when applying lots of pressure to the lever? It feels to me like the piston is slipping at the end of the throw.
-
• #4670
You sure it's not a cable stop?
-
• #4671
Do you have the pre-recall calipers?
-
• #4672
It's a full length housing from the lever to the caliper and I can't see it slipping anywhere, unless it might be slipping inside the lever body?
The cable also returns to proper tension when I release the lever.

• #4673
I didn't buy them new, so am not sure how old they are. Would there be any code on the caliper that I could refer to?

Based off that I've got the Version 2 caliper. Do you know what the issues were with the version 1?
6 bolt unfortunately, but thank you, forgot about ribble so I'll have a hunt on their site
