  • you could go 1x9 and then mate any shimano 9 speed bit to any other bit - my cx pro has this...
i currently run 9 speed 34T on the back on an XTR 9 speed rear mech and 9 speed mtb shifter on the flat bar, but when i want to move to drops, i just put in a 9 speed shifter. up front is an ultegra crank on a 42T i think it was.

mines disc (cx pro, not sure of year) but for you - as the other "hand" is for braking only.... you could go disc fork and run 1 hydro brake up front....

  • if the 9 speed stuff is available I've got no preference really just that in an ideal world the shifter wouldn't have the cable exiting the shifter at a right angle, not a fan.

Yeah as time goes on I realise I don't like buying whole new things, I like projects and bodges, hence the crankset on this being a 165mm track crank with a narrow wide on it! If I decide to go hydro discs on to another frame, I think that is how I'd do it, gradually add the front end to this and then upgrade the frame and rear as and when
