Did they smear catnip on it ?
Ours won't touch scratch posts, prefers stair carpet ripping, or undersides of chairs.

11pm trip to the emergency vet last night as Mogget seemed completely out of sorts. Not necessarily in pain but didn't want to walk anywhere or even eat dreamies. Were worried he might have been poisoned. Turns out he must have been in a fight with another cat and was in shock. Had tiny puncture marks and scratches in and around his ears that the vet could only find using a scope and by shaving some of the fur off.
Painkillers, anti-biotics and £220 later we took home a spaced out cat. Was back to normal this morning, if a bit tender around the head.

Fleur has recently gone nuts for the smell of peanut butter. She’s never had human food and trying to keep it that way..

Has anyone found a good solution to stop cats from scratching sofas? Ours has destroyed one chair and is on her way to the next. I've covered every corner in masking tape which stops her, but I can't see that as a permanent solution.

Get a better/more scratching posts.

Do they have access to the sofa when you're not there? If so, you'll probably find it pretty difficult if you haven't already managed to stop it.
Cat's will learn pretty quickly from positive punishment, ie a bop on the head or a spray with a water bottle whenever they exhibit the behaviour. The problem comes when they are unsupervised for long periods of time as they'll just learn to do it when you're not around...

I got my girl a decent scratching post and doused it in catnip. 5 years on and it's still going strong and the sofa remains unscathed. First thing she does when she comes in from the garden is go up to it and give it a few tugs, it's like a ritual for her.

Those cardboard scratch-beds are very popular:
Visitor to my workplace garden. Very friendly and with the hardest headbutts ever. Surely this must hurt the cat? Our two headbutt our faces when we are in bed and I often feel it must hurt them. This one was launching him/herself at my hands.
