Which didn't you bother with? Pointing out that you did, or didn't have reflectors? Neither option makes any sense.
Coming across as smarmy is the least of your worries: careful that stable door doesn't smack you on your smar........... t-arse on the way out!

Fully aware of this. Waited until I was about to set off to tell them what the law actually is. Didn't bother with the pedal and rear reflectors bit though, didn't wanna be too smarmy.
