Sidewall blowout on the smoothest straightest section of tarmac on my whole commute. I found an old Orangina pouch in a hedge to use as a boot, but with air in the tyre the pressure was tearing the casing apart even worse.
Inspired by a photo I recently saw of some old school grass track racers with their tyres taped onto their rims I scrounged a cable tie from a nearby garage to put around tyre and rim to stop the split from widening.
Worked a treat... rode the remaining 10km into town with no issues and have now safely replaced the tyre.
