What time is it? Watches and horology

It’ll almost certainly a cross threaded caseback. Shame as it’s in nice condition. If he wants to sell it cheap i’d be interested

Buy a decent caseback opening tool and DIY. will be cheaper and you can take your time, which is the main reason watches get damaged.

It was a "project" watch like mine was , so was battered needed new glass etc.
And to be honest if STS couldn't do it without cutting off, then it needed cutting off. So straight away we looking at new case back , new glass before even considering the condition of the movement which we can't see because we can't get the back off.
I did however try to steal it from him .
That hazy one pictured is mine.

I recently had to Araldite a 20mm brass handle into a case back to lever it off. If that doesn’t take it off, then I don’t know what would. Sometimes case back replacement is not an option.

Who was after a 1958 Omega for their Dad? Or have I got the date wrong? If not, I have a lead for you.....

Luckily Omega have the best stock of bits and pieces of any of the manufacturers and case backs for that ref are available off the shelf.

Cool. How did you get the araldite off afterwards?

I’ve heard of people getting results with warming the case and/or freezing the caseback. But in this case STS couldn’t do it which is why I figured it had been cross threaded.

Ah sorry I did look back must have missed whoever else posted it

my first acquisition - Movado Museum with Zenith hand-winding mechanism. it is a watch i always lusted after and i finally got my hands on one. will leave it here to counterbalance all the visually complicated timepieces in the thread :)

need to get a decent strap for it, otherwise it's quite nice (not perfect, but nice patina).

it has a stainless case that says gold electroplated bezel. it does not say zenith on the dial, but the other early ones i saw that didn't say zenith were all solid 14k gold - there is not much info on the history of these.. would be nice to know its age.

Thats nice. It's got a real 80's minimalist look to it.

This is getting a lot of wrist time at the minute. My first 'proper' watch.

You use acetone to dissolve the araldite.

Here’s when I used a nut as an interface, but it’s not as strong as making a handle:

That case photographed was so stiff to open that it twisted my entire bench on its feet.

Thanks. I was wondering about doing it myself but Instrmnts website says "Please do not try to change the battery yourself" which put me off.

It has four screws on the back so would I still need a caseback opening tool?

Strong start. I have a very first gen quartz peregrine. It was my first interesting watch purchase many years ago.
