No, just played mind games, I was telling him I’m a bike mechanic and I wanted to see him putting the brakes back up properly.
Kinda felt bad about it as I had to explain to the police why the bike looked ok when they arrived!
I enjoyed looking at him trying to fix the bike while he was clearly shaking from fear.
Sure thing tomorrow he’ll be back at it, but just hope one day he’ll find less polite people ready to give him hell (and few broken bones). The owner at the end decided not to press charges as she was scared he might come back and do something to her as revenge.
He was obviously known by the police and he got told not to be seen around locked bicycles (???).
Sad times. -

I dunno, I try not to buy into rumors about how much bike crime police ignore, always someone with a story about police knowing all the bike thieves, I like to think they do what they can it's just hard to get strong evidence and even sometimes when they do(like the time you had) victims aren't as on board as you would think they should be.

I know that and I’m not saying anything about police, today I was impressed by how fast they responded.
Ironically, at the end it’s just a bike and in the most populated city in Europe bike theft must (and should) be a low priority crime.
I’m just glad they showed up so promptly. -

At £150 each (and he would probably take £120 each) they must be stolen, surely.

Had a woman come in the LBS i work in on friday to get a USB charging cable for the lights she had just bought for 50p from a guy in the park.... she is a regular customer so politely told her to GTF as we didn't sell those lights and then explained that someone had just come in to replace the one they had just had stolen from their bike which was locked at the park... £30 light for 50p and yet she was shocked they might actually be stolen!

GF's workplace was done over 2 nights ago on Gray's Inn Rd.
Under ground parking/bike storage with ~20 bikes loaded into the back of a van. Roller door had been broken for months, so I think they drove in, smashed locks and drove out again.
More details to follow.

Have a friend who has just had his bike stolen from outside Holborn Burger King:
It's a large. Not the most distinctive bike but if anyone comes across it either browsing online marketplaces or just seeing it changing hands, please drop me a PM with details. Thanks

Your situation reminded me to post this picture of the scumbag I recently confronted. He was in Shoreditch stripping parts and weirdly was using a Boris bike to get around:

Our friend here regularly sells his loot at the waste market on Kingsland Road most sat mornings,(unoffical, of course) him and his pals seem to have a fetish for bike bits and the odd wheel, think they've been busy recently with plenty on display today, anyone missing a white 3 spoke front wheel?, these chaps were selling it for £10 today, it didn't sell so maybe it'll be there again next week,

It's like Victorian London is alive and well, urchins old rogues and Fagins alike. Sad human nature hasn't got better. Thoughts with you all for a speedy return of your appreciated property. Will keep an eye out on all the usual online selling outlets...

Found a bike outside Kennington Tesco today. It wasn't even locked up and the saddle was missing, so I assumed that someone dumped it. If you can give me a description then please come collect it.
Picture (video, actually) taken by my girlfriend while I was trying to convince him to fix the bike to gain time.
I’m the arm you see on the right.
On another note unsurprisingly hundreds of people around us completely ignored the situation.
The only person that approached us came to shout “come on let him go it’s just a bike!”
