Yes and no. We used various powdered plant milks and coconut cream powder when we were living in the van. I'll elaborate when I finish moving house :)

I despise BBC newsbeat. It's depressing to think of the "news" stories that get published in there aimed at teenagers. The above article is in its usual canon of dumbing down an issue or topic.

I get intensely bored by these articles in which journalists get sent away to do x days/weeks/months of being vegan. Either they have a motivation and reason and they will already have done it in their personal life quite apart from any professional job (honourable mention goes to Ramzy Alwakeel of the Hackney and Islington Gazettes), or they don't, in which case it's exceedingly unlikely that they'll find them through a job like this (though stranger things have happened).

Another "woe is me" story that has no outcome at all apart from him realising how much he like meat... which he pretty much stated at the beginning of the article... there was something similar on the Independent site but I can't find it.

Also, seems like they had already made their mind up before they even started. Not going to give it a fair go with that attitude!
I've been talking to a bunch of people about being vegan recently, and the question that drives me bonkers is always "But, what do you eat for dinner?!" I mean, it's a difficult one to answer, as the possibilities are endless. I just want to ask, "well, what do you eat??" I didn't feel like it was a difficult transition for me, as I already did a lot of cooking & baking, so I guess the odd substitution becomes easier.

No doubt we'll get the same mundane BS next January... for me, apart from completely changing the way I eat, it also opened me up to loads of food I'd never had before and I really enjoyed cooking and eating new dishes... there's still things to this day I eat and I'm like who the fuck needs to eat meat when you've got amazing food like this to choose from.
The main thing that annoyed me about the Indy piece is that they're in the next office to me, just down the road from Whole Foods/Crush/Leon's/Pret etc and they're whining like little idiots because they'd agreed to not eat meat for a month... and then have to write about it

I did vegan January (been veggie for years), I'm staying vegan. Never thought I'd stick with it after January but it's just too easy, I feel better too.

Wonderful!

I actually quite enjoy getting that question nowadays. I used to find it difficult to answer, especially when I couldn't cook yet. Now I just say: 'Do an Internet search, get millions of recipes.'

Merry Pancake Day for yesterday. Made these vegan ones - basically oat based https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/feb/13/pancake-recipes-crepes-six-best
A lot like the fluffy American pancake variety but amazingly filling. Eating two was a bit like eating a bowl of porridge. I'd recommend (although to be honest you only need half the amount in the recipe for two people).Oh and I managed to get to the Temple of Camden after a long ,long wait (couldn't be arsed goign to Hackney). It was so good that I missed the first 10 mins of Chubby Thunderous Bad Kush Masters in order to walk down from the Underground to get some food.

Did anyone else seem to suffer more the first time they got ill after going vegan?
It’s only been about 6 weeks since i decided to give it a go but i have had my ass kicked for the last 8 days by some horrendous cold/chest infection thing. I very rarely get ill if i’m honest, but this has got me wondering if the change in diet has anything to do with it. -
• #4798
Dunno, maybe depends on how balanced your diet is, or if there's a deficit left by the change. I don't eat brilliantly but I've had very few colds since being vegan (been a little over 2 years I think) and they've been mild to say the least.
I'd also have thought that 6 weeks is quite a short period for major changes in your body to be noticeable (could easily be wrong on that), and the fact you've been ill for 8 days might just be bad luck, for me it wouldn't be enough to put two and two together, but is worth looking in to if you're concerned.
nb, if I haven't put enough disclaimers in, just want to affirm this is my personal opinion!

Yeah, there is every chance i have just picked up something savage and it is going to kick my ass vegan or otherwise.
I’m just interested in other people’s thoughts and experiences.
Also, my diet very much depends on what job i’m doing. I’m a chef at a nice cafe that serves lots of vegan dishes, so i eat well there. I’m a messenger the rest of the week and mainly survive on black coffee and oreos.

I went vegan in January and had the worst bout of Tonsilitis/conjuctivitis in recent memory towards the end of the month.
I think it's probably just a coincidence because it's flu season and you're much more likely to get sick at this time of year anyway.
I've edited that - Use by 12 Feb
Well I've frozen 7 packs - have to wait and see how they defrost.
I'll keep an eye on TedsVeg because they said when this lots gone they're gone.
