Dunno what you’re chipping paint on if you’re not locking up.
Mud and grit.
You do know 'gravel' bikes can be ridden off road, don't you?

8 speed cassette have similar jump to those SRAM 10-42 cassette.
Actually welcome it, sometime it nice to Not shift as much, I found I worn my chain out on the 11 speed road cassette cause I took advantage of the smaller jump all the time.

Aluminium steerer in specs? OP was talking about new not second hand .
So apart from he was asking about new and steel/ti yours was a great suggestion ;-)
-
• #2413
Again, I haven’t looked at the specs and it wasn’t an actual suggestion.
Mine is full carbon which is why I said.
And I’m aware he’s talking about new. I was merely explaining the reason I haven’t looked at the spec lists.
So srsbsns round here -

The Arkose 4 has a full carbon fork, Arkose 3 and below is alloy steerer

Is that 2018 or earlier?
I should stop jumping off stuff on my Arkose 4 then???

The new ultra and tiagra came with 34t cassette option and that's the official capacity, wouldn't be surprised if it take 36t comfortably.

• #2418
Not sure, I was looking at the framesets a couple of weeks ago. So probably 2018 models, yeah.
-
• #2419
Ah right, good to know. They should have done it 3 years ago! And they also should have done a 1× road/CX/gravel groupset! I don't know what they're playing at
-
• #2420
I'd be happier on a full carbon fork than some bonded fork, either way they should both be safe for jumps under two feet :)
-
• #2421

Been there done that with 8 and 9-speed, still can. 10 & 11 with tanpan or Di2.
they also should have done a 1× road/CX/gravel groupset!
All Shimano groups are 1x compatible, why should they make something 1x specific?
-
• #2422
Normally you would only call rear derailleurs with a clutch and maybe a long cage variant 1x11 compatible.
-
• #2423
Pretty sure mines 2014 or 15, full carbon
-
• #2424
Full carbon is stronger than alloy bonded to carbon

I thought that was during an SBC ride.
Any frame material can have any riding properties you want..
For instance if you have a tube of aluminium and titanium with the same dimensions and wall thickness the titanium tube will have a higher modulus. A higher modulus means more rigid/less comfortable.
Surface erosion of titanium is, as you put it, way better than aluminium. Not as good as stainless though. And let's be honest, matte grey is a bit boring..
