  • ^Ignore all that. Turns out they didn't remove the chimney breast at all, rather they created a new wall to flush in line with it. So no previous cowboy chimney removal job to deal worry about anymore, but a why you make small London house even smaller annoyance instead. Might just bash out all the chimney breasts myself.

    Agree with you there. Some say they add value though coz fireplaces are pretty and all that, I'd rather have the extra space but I'm sure the missus will think the opposite, because she normally does. Will get a builder over once we are in and see how painful a job it would be to do.

    Maybe they did it for acoustic or thermal insulation?

    I'm confident their primary reason was aesthetics. It's in a kitchen living space area and a flat wall does work better. Improved acoustic is a nice bonus though, I'll be sure to take all shouting matches to that room.
