Details & History of the frame according to the seller-
A track frame by one of the most famous frame builders in London - 'Chas' Roberts of Croydon.
This frame has true pedigree and was built for Spencer Wingrave, one time madison partner of Tony Doyle.
Columbus multi shape tubing.
(parts of the frame look like Max and it does not appear to be Columbus Multi Shape tubing)I messaged the seller for further information -
I'm selling the frame on behalf of a club member, who was a fine rider himself in the 80's/90's and would have been friendly with a few on the racing scene.
It came to him 3rd hand after it was built for Spencer between 90 and 92.Looking through the Roberts owners club thread on here, I found an email address which may provide me with further information about the frame -
@user72944
This is the email for Brian Phillips who had worked at Roberts, he has whats left of the original paperwork. He will need the original owners name.brion900@yahoo.co.uk
I have sent Brian an email and will see what I get back

That's an outstanding frame Bob. Good acquisition

Like I said in the other thread, it's full max except for the forks. Definitely not multishape :) My vote goes for superbe pro, Gipiemme looks to old for a modern-ish OS frame like that.

C Record is another option due to the age ?

Hooo, you got it. Was sorely tempted but managed to avoid re-bidding after my first cheeky bid after accidentally locking myself out of my computer...glad I didn't and that you got it for a decent price.
That said, if you ever want to sell it....

+1 on Superbe Pro.

Such a sweet frame, another vote for Suberbe Pro

I think either groupset would look superbe
-
• #17
Prefer the cranks of the Gipiemme personally
-
• #18
But ultimately C record would look best imo

Can't wait until it arrives

Nice!
Spencer Wingrave obviously likes Columbus Max. My bro owns a Roberts/Max road bike previously owned by him. /csb, etc. :)

• #24
Really - that's interesting. There is not a lot of information out there on Wingrave.
Got any pictures of your brothers ?

Yeah, here you go.
All I remember of Spencer Wingrave was him being completely dominant as a junior at Herne Hill and Crystal Palace in the mid-80's, at the time I started getting into track cycling with VCL. A few years older than me but would've beaten my (other) bro in a few races! Lost track of him as a senior.
