  • Have a G-Tech EV drive plugged in via the ATC Thunderbolt enclosure. It's showing up as an external drive in Disk Utility but it's greyed out. When I try to erase/first aid/partition/restore/ mount it says: "X process has failed. Click Done to continue."

Click to show details gives different options depending what process was attempted but, for example:

    "Unmounting disk
POSIX reports: The operation couldn’t be completed. Invalid argument.
    Operation failed…"

    or

    "Repairing file system.
    Volume is already unmounted.
    Performing fsck_msdos -y /dev/rdisk2s2
    ** /dev/rdisk2s2

Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: 000000

File system check exit code is 8.
Restoring the original state found as unmounted.
File system verify or repair failed.
    Operation failed…"

Is the disc dead? I'm on a shoot and can't easily get another but am also loath to just use a single drive. Will mean putting 3 days of rushes on a single terabyte drive rather than duplicating it across 2 which as best practices goes is pretty abysmal. Anything I can try I'm not thinking of? Don't have access to another mac. May have access to a Windows comp later this eve I could try formatting it on, then at least it might be 'cured' enough to format on the Mac again as exFat?
