  • They are good lads.

Since you will be in South East London, we should go for a beer.

  • Paint done:

Whilst I don't want to sound like I'm blowing my own trumpet, the quality of the finish is really good, much better than my limited skills with the camera would suggest.

It was definitely well worth taking the trouble to do the Cole Coatings course. Dan and Ian are very passionate and dedicated in what they do, and I learnt a lot from them. I also think that going through the finishing process has broadened my understanding of the frame building process as a whole.

It looks like I'm going to be painting, as well as building my own frames from now on. Better get saving.

  • That's super. Love the paint.

  • That fork. Phwoar.

  • That's looking lovely.

  • Not been on here for a while, but first thing I did was check your current projects. You have no disappointed. This is a stunning bike.

  • Both frame and paint look lovely. Top work (as per usual)!

Any thoughts on the rest of the build (groupset etc.)?

  • Thanks.

In terms of the rest of the build, I'm having a bit of a cash-flow crisis at the moment, which means it's progressing very slowly.

That being the case, it will probably end up being a mainly parts-bin build until I've sorted myself out, at which point it will probably be Record. I am however toying with the idea of building it with flat bars, for which I already have a set of NOS Veloce shifters.

  • Time to get back on to this build.

I have been ordering some budget parts from the interweb:

  • Awesome , is this 1” ? What stem will it have ?

  • Nah, it's 1& 1/8" .

For now, it's going to have a fairly generic stem that's on a set of bars in my parts bin.

Eventually, it will probably have matching Thompson seatpost and stem.

  • Finally got round to getting this on the road:

Have taken it round the block, and to the shops, and so far everything is working as it should.

    Parts are:

    Drivetrain - Campagnolo Veloce
Brake callipers - Paul Racer (these were a real pain to set up)
Wheels - Campagnolo Record Hubs / Mavic Open Pro Rims
Tyres - Michelin Pro 3 - Don't know why, these will be replaced asap
Steapost - Parts bin Thompson Elite - will replace with silver when I have the funds
Saddle - Parts bin - will be replaced in due course
Steam & Bars - Also parts bin, will also be replaced

This will also get a rack (might fabricate my own) and mudguards (possibly Honjo hammered) in the fullness of time. Whilst its all nice and shiny now, it was built to be ridden, may well end up being my commuter.

  • Lovely, lovely, lovely...

  • Very, very, nice. What was the issue you had with the brakes?

  • What was the issue you had with the brakes?

I just thought they were a bit fiddly to set up, they're not particularly easy to adjust or 'fine tune'.

Also, the supplied brake blocks are hideous - an oddity given that these brakes sell at a premium because they are so nice looking.

  • Haven’t ridden this much, as wasn’t happy with the set-up.

Put some flat bars on it, and it has become transformed.

Imagine I will be riding this a great deal over the summer.

  • Such a lovely frame. Be prepared for the lock-on grips police though.

  • Be prepared for the lock-on grips police though

Had no idea that was a thing - will be vigilant.

  • Hard to keep up nowadays.

  • Oh shit, that was me chatting to you about Special Escort Group by the Albert Hall the other night!

If i'd have seen the lock ons I would have stayed silent!

  • Ha! Hello, small world.

  • Fitted some gumwall 32’s. This bike is now coming together.

Had to sacrifice the mudguards but fuck it, the sun is shining - happy dayz.
