  • Penderyn is proper lip smacking shit 👍

  • Looking to buy a friend a decent bottle of Scotch around the £100 mark. Could anyone recommend something? He's quite good in that he seems like anything when it comes to taste.

  • Looks great, thank you

  • Exactly what ChasnotRobert suggested. It's a belter.

  • Got a bottle of Balblair 1999 for Christmas. It's very nice but will have to wait a while...

  • Planning to do a bourbon tasting with a few friends to expand our horizons beyond whisky. Everyone is going to throw in some cash and we'll buy a few bottles with some different characteristics to learn a bit about styles ect.

Could I get some recommendations for 3-4 bottles in the £30-50 each region?

  • Bourbon? I really don't think you're really going to get huge variation between the distilleries. So much of the process is homogeonous with not much space for individuality: namely the single distillation of spirit and the use of new barrels.

At that range Woodford Reserve, Single Barrel Jack and a nice Evan Williams, maybe the Makers Mark 46 or the Elijah Craig offerings.

If you can stretch to the Balcones you will get something very different: they do a seek to do something very different and it's very good. Price is a reflection of that. Pappy van Winkle if you win the lottery.

  • compare different bourbon and rye whiskys.
surely not as much variety compared to scotch, but still worth a tasting imo.

i can really recommend Bulleit bourbon, bakers 7, sazerac rye and bookers.

  • Royal mile whiskies near holborn has evan Williams single barrel 8 year old for £38 which seems like a pretty damn good starting point. On that note for anybody whose interested the kilkerran releases including the 12 year are great. Enough so that I've stocked up on 2 bottles a piece of the 12 and 8 cask strength.

  • Yeah, it's not bad at it's pric epoint. However Aberlour 12 is considerably better, and is regularly available at a cheaper price than the 10 if you check the prices in the big supermarkets. I've bought it for £27 at Asda.

  • Bookers is my go to bourbon

  • This made me laugh. A fucking amazon dash button to instantly re-order bottles of whisky.

  • Haha. Do they make one for Bells?

  • So much for all the lowball offers I had for my bottle of Macallan Gran Reserva. I decided to put it along with the other bottles of malts into an auction, so far the Macallan has reached its £2k reserve, just hoping there are a few more bids before the auction ends.

  • Bulleit.
    Is it nice?

  • Rye? yes. Bourbon is OK but Rye is better

  • Life is good.

  • rye is lovely

  • MaCallan seems to be a good investment at the minute, their Folio range pretty much doubles in price as soon as you buy it (at retail price that is)

  • Just about finished my bottle of Blue Label given to me for Christmas a couple of years ago. Think I need to replace it. Not immediately, though. How low can I hope to go? Am traveling a bit this year, or what are the ad hoc or Black Fri discounts on Amazon like?

EDIT: £134 on Amazon now (claiming a reduction of £30). Good? Likely to be like that for a while? Or better at some point?

  • What's the Octomore like? I've still got a dozen bottles of my single cask Bruichladdich left, but a bit of variety would be good.

  • Seems to be the choice of the investor at the moment. The Macallan's now at £2300, that should buy a nice amount of bike kit

  • It's really good, as it's only a 5 year old it's pretty feisty but the high phenolic nature needs a spirit with a bit of character. If you like peat you'll dig it but there's a lot of other things going on such as sweetness and dried fruit, kind of like you usually find in highland whisky. I've got a couple of different editions and they all have there own characteristics. I'd love them to do an 8 or 10 year old version although I think anything older than that wouldn't be worth it.
