  • Perfect, ta

Also looks like Sky Q will do it as well for me...

Turn your TV into a Bluetooth speaker
That’s right, Sky Q boxes have Bluetooth built in. Head to the Music menu option, swipe/click right and select Your Music. You’ll see options to play music from your mobile devices either by Bluetooth or AirPlay.
It’s not quite as simple as that, though… You actually need to go into the Settings menu, choose Setup, and then Music – from there you have the option to add a Bluetooth device. Once your device is paired, you can stream music to Sky Q just like you would with any other Bluetooth speaker, by heading into a music app on your device and hitting Play.
Connecting Apple devices over AirPlay is even simpler. As long as the device is on the same Wi-Fi network as the Sky Q box, just press the AirPlay icon within your iOS media app and choose your Sky box from the list.

  • HomePod has got absolutely incredible sound.

I thought it will sound good, but it way over my expectations.

    And pretty reasonably priced IMO.

  • yeah obviously would!

Will have it for sale in the next few days and drop you a line first should you be interested

  • Have a G-Tech EV drive plugged in via the ATC Thunderbolt enclosure. It's showing up as an external drive in Disk Utility but it's greyed out. When I try to erase/first aid/partition/restore/ mount it says: "X process has failed. Click Done to continue."

Click to show details gives different options depending what process was attempted but, for example:

    "Unmounting disk
POSIX reports: The operation couldn’t be completed. Invalid argument.
    Operation failed…"

    or

    "Repairing file system.
    Volume is already unmounted.
    Performing fsck_msdos -y /dev/rdisk2s2
    ** /dev/rdisk2s2

Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: 000000

File system check exit code is 8.
Restoring the original state found as unmounted.
File system verify or repair failed.
    Operation failed…"

Is the disc dead? I'm on a shoot and can't easily get another but am also loath to just use a single drive. Will mean putting 3 days of rushes on a single terabyte drive rather than duplicating it across 2 which as best practices goes is pretty abysmal. Anything I can try I'm not thinking of? Don't have access to another mac. May have access to a Windows comp later this eve I could try formatting it on, then at least it might be 'cured' enough to format on the Mac again as exFat?

  • If in doubt, restart with it plugged in.

    Solved and heart rate normalised.

  • heart rate normalised

Which is inconvenient as we're filming docs for the NHS with some doctors so I'd like to shoot them doing something a bit more interesting than checking blood pressure. Even if it is compressions on me. #Die4MyArt4Lyf

  • I have a question about iCloud backups for iPhones, possibly only relating the iPhone X, not sure. I have always managed to get by with the free 5GB to backup both my iPhone and iPad, as I don't backup my photos or other too heavy things, maybe a few docs, but that's not even in MBs.

However, since the latest iOS updates my iphone X backup has gone up from around 1.5GB on 27 Jan to well over 4GB over the weekend. I have barely used the phone in the last couple of weeks to be honest. Any idea why the increase? This means I can no longer backup my phone without paying... which is not the end of the world, but would be good to know why the sudden increase.

Like I said, the only change is I have updated to the latest iOS, but I thought iOS and apps don't count towards the iCloud storage limit? As in they are unlimited no matter how many ot how big the apps are?

I have checked the usage etc and nothing jumps out as being extremely big, there is an AR app that I never use and that ate up about 1GB of storage including user data, but I have deleted it and the backup size hasn't gone down by about 20omb, so clearly not the cause here...

  • Might be wrong but Mac2Sell has it at around £600 - similar one was on here for c. £550 last year

  • I've got a 6plus phone, 64gb, unlocked, headphones, charger, box etc.
I'd say it's in good condition, a few little scuffs.

    £200

  • My stray copy of FontExplorer X has finally had it I think. I've had it for years so I'm pretty pleased it lasted me this long tbh.

Time for an update though. Is FontExplorerX worth €89? What are you lot using?

Bought RightFont a while ago and it's shit

  • We have a bunch of Dell ink cartridges Series 22 (8 in total, mixture of black and colour) does someone wants to take them GRATIS?
Collection Sw or SE. Otherwise I may take them to recycle

  • Finally updated the work iMac (2013) to High Sierra.
It's booting from an external SSD in a USB 3 enclosure and everything works swimmingly.

Interestingly, though, it didn't change the filesystem to APFS on either the internal HDD or external SSD.

My personal MBP from 2011 did get APFS, however.

Maybe external drives and spinning disks don't get it and it's reserved for SATA/PCI attached SSDs.

  • FWIW I bought my MBP with pretty much the same spec and a well used battery off my work recently for £400. I would say yours wouldn't be worth less than that.

  • I was upgrading my dad's 2013 Air yesterday and it got into a time-sapping install loop where it couldn't install 10.13 once I'd wiped the drive and reformatted to APFS. I had to enter internet recovery, wipe and reformat to HFS+, then restart the 10.13 install without wiping and reformatting.

I thought APFS was mandatory for all boot SSDs but nothing else. P'raps not.

  • Cheers all. will get it formatted give it a once over etc, and probs list it on here for £400ish

  • That sounds like a pain. Maybe it's model-specific. Who knows!

Things seem a bit snappier now, which is nice.

  • Aluminium/unibody era cinema display still for sale;

  • Yeah don’t think spinners get the upgrade.

  • So which is it, iMac or Hack?

  • Cheeky wee hack for htpc/ gaming. Such an easy install.

  • iPhone X worth it over an iPhone 8?

  • @6pt and @eyebrows have both got one.

My iPhone SE is getting a little too small for me and I am considering the same thing tbh.

  • iPhone X worth it over an iPhone 8?

    Personally, yes.

The face unlock thing is surprisingly effective and made the whole phone much easier than the old thumb print novelty.

  • Had mine since launch day. Swapped a 7 Plus.

I find it much more usable than the old; almost identical screen real estate in something roughly the same size as the normal iphone.

Faceid is great and rarely fails. It's not the logging in that I find it most useful for but for logging into apps, Apple pay and passwords in safari.

It also has a cool feature where it turns down the volume of calls and alarms as soon as it notices you looking at the phone.

Finally, the swipe gestures are much quicker than using the button for switching apps, getting to the home screen and for reachability (which isn't enabled by default but is fucking useful).

    Would recommend.
