you're missing a cable adjuster. it should sit in that bit off the headset and likely will have a thread for it. it shouldn't really have that noodle coming out of it. unless it came with that. in which case the stem is your issue. you can either raise it or swap it for something more suitable
you can get stems with the hole through the middle which would sort it.

or salvage one off an old weinnman brake or similar

thanks, the bike came with straight handlebars, and I've just put on the drops with STI levers.
I'm guessing structurally it's not safe to drill this stem?
Are you sure that's the correc part? the thread on the stop looks very, very small

Something like this will work better and you'll have a smoother cable run, but does mean new outer casing and removing bar tape...

I wouldn't drill the stem, get one made for the job - not worth mucking around with stems.
it's probably not that exact part no but it would be that type of thing. thats an m6 thread, you probably need m4 or 5 at a guess. you'll have to measure it and get the right one.
or drill the holder thing out to fit the noodle better

^ a new outer might not be necessary - there might be enough cable to instead re-route the cable under the handlebars

Get rid of the noodle, feed the cable under the bar as opposed to above.

Yep you're probably right! Didn't look properly! :)

I haven't taped the bars and I don't mind making new outer cables etc.
Still not sure which to purchase, as it won't solve the problem with the cable going in that direction?
Also, it's a 1" set up with a quill adapter, will the black cable hanger adjuster work?

Fuck all those steerer mounted stops, they are a one way ticket to brake judder.
Crown mounted and done.

Fuck cantis full stop 🛑

Buy a crown mounted one like @thebrenthamtaffy and @M_V suggest. You’re less likely to get brake judder the lower down the front your mount the cable hanger (although you might still get it, in which case you need to toe in your brake pads as next step).
Get rid of that end noodle and route the brake cable+outer from the bars to the hanger and feed outer into the hanger just like you would with normal calliper brakes, no need to go above the stem -

Summed it up nicely. Agree on all those point!
Hi all,
just finishing off another project and I've hit a snag.
I'm sure there's some real easy way to sort this, but this is the first time I've ever dealt with canti brakes.
Hopefully the pictures will make everything clear, but I'm having trouble with getting the cable outer to be straight and also the cable is coming across the bar.
Logic would be for it to go straight through the stem, but I don't want to drill it, or purchase a stem made for this, I like the stem I've got on there.
Any advice?
