IME the worms are a get-you-home option; on MTB tyres it doesn't matter that the worms poke out, as the knobbly tyre bits compensate for the protrusion, but on a road tyre you really fucking notice it, regardless of the pressure. In a perfect world you can cut them so they're just sticking out (they flatten over time and go hard, once you've doused them in solution), but you have to get a good sharp blade because it's quite easy to accidentally pull the worm back out.
Oh, and like a previous poster suggested, you can trim them vertically and horizontally because the size they come in is often far larger than is required to fill the hole.
Like the @cycleclinic 's demo of caffelatex and worms. However A) could have done with holding the phone the right way round, and a lot closer to the tyre - no need to frame the whole guy all the time and B) a couple of very-close-ups of what you were doing with the worm/applicator before and during insertion wouldn't have hurt. I can't see what you're doing at all. Less gabbling about your injuries and show more please.
But overall a helpful sales pitch/instructional. Off to buy some flexy
superglue. Can anyone tell me why you'd stick a great long worm in if the ends are then sticking way out? Couldn't you cut them shorter? I think I'll have to carry some nail clippers for trimming worm ends if was riding a bit far from home.
