As far as the original HS33s go, if you want to stay retro, I would not recommend them for anything much above 2.1 or thereabouts, unless you elect to use a different brake bridge, which is where the clearance problem lies (and they dictate how far apart you can set up the brakes, to an extent). I had to snip the second hole off mine, (same as this picture) in order to clear a 2.0 Bontrager XR1 on a wide rim.
Presumably the modern ones and aftermarket boosters don't suffer the same issues.
But they aren't fluoro.
Okay, so, I have some cash to put towards this project and want to know where to start.
I’ve been considering those Magura hydraulic rim brakes. Has anyone used them and have any idea what the tyre clearance is like?
