  • The stuff of dreams.

  • Just heard about a company reshuffle, which may mean commute will drop from 15miles to 7miles. Might have to do laps round richmond park every couple of days to keep the mileage up..

  • I thought that when I moved 20min closer to home a couple of years ago. Have I been to Regents Park to make up that additional distance? Not a once :)

  • I moved 20min closer to home

  • Commuting isn't training, just enjoy the ride for what it is. If you want to do some longer rides just pick a weekday evening, grab a train to the other side of the M25 and have a bit of a spin. I can recommend Thursdays as good days for this, possibly from about the end of March onward.

  • If I don’t, the pounds will pile up and it’ll be an excuse to put some Lycra on during the week, since the everyday commute won’t require it..

  • Office - - - - - Home

    Office - - - Home

  • Would love to do that, but with baby on the way, long rides on weeknights, and/or weekends are probably a thing of the past..

  • So you moved 20 minutes closer to work? ;)

  • And I’ve never thought of commuting as training, but the length of the commute means I keep the weight off just by doing it four times a week. I’m 120 miles ahead of the mileage game, just by travelling to work, which I’d have to do anyway..

  • Lace up the running shoes and run instead.

  • I moved work closer to home.

  • It all makes sense now.

  • Wait, what, you're pregnant? No one told me, congratulations dude! We have a few regular bad-dads on the ThNRC, tho no-one has yet turned up with a Hamax.

  • I can confirm a la @middleofnowhere that with good communication and planning with the other half you can #baddad evening rides guilt-free. Might be touch and go in the first 3-6 months, but by no means count it out. With the right schedule and expectations evening rides can actually be WAY better than weekend rides or some early morning madness.

  • I'm currently doing the 8wk couch to 5k, and am crippling myself every other day with aching calves and achilles. I'm not even running that fast.
Hoping my lower legs get used to it and I'm able to run ache free. Then will augment the commute with the running twice a week or so, and swimming once a week. I'll pretty much be a triathlete, but with sleeves..

  • keep it up! running is tough but easily the best calorie burner per minute.

  • Good lad, finishing the couch to 5k was one of the best things I ever did.

A solid 5k under your belt and you're pretty much good to go to train for any longer distance you want, the aches and pains never fully go away but you will get faster and/or be able to go further.

I'd be down for a forum parkrun with the other runengers when you graduate the c25k

  • Went for a great 1am cycle Streatham Hill down to Clapham Common and over to the big asda then back via Tooting Bec and Balham. Back roads all the way, don't think I noticed a single car. This might become a thing as my working week looks like mon+tues fri+sat and I can get away with going for a midweek late night ride.

  • What a fucking couple of days.
Brixton road is a bit sprinty isn't it?

Last night at Kennington Station someone decided to go back the way they came on the pelican crossing, to have a discussion with a moped rider. The light was green in my direction. Just stood in the road, I was stopped trying to talk/shout at him and he was blankly ignoring me to talk at the moped rider. Fuck me.

    This morning.
Wells Park Road (water works happening at last. Traffic controlled by lights). Over take a bus that was taking on passengers, move onto other side of road. Green light for them. Car starts coming down the hill. No probs, I'll make it past this bus, it's only a metre or so. I'm clearly past halfway of the bus, I can see the driver in his mirror. I'm on his fucking shoulder. That's how nearly past the bus I am.
WHAT THE FUCK. BUS STARTS MOVING OFF and undertakes. I have to keep going into oncoming traffic. Which stops. Then nip back in and I proceed to ride really fucking slowly as it's on the steepest part. Sigh.

Then commute starts properly. Lovely College Road. Lovely Sunray Ave. Lovely Denmark Hill
WTF ARE YOU DOING? IT'S CLEARLY NOT GREEN FOR YOU YOU SLOW MOVING PEDESTRIAN FUCK.
Runs out but then has nipples pointed at floor, isn't moving quick enough.

    I avoid crashing.
    Stop.
    Turn around.
And really fucking shout at this young student type.

Move off.. Then this cunt in a cunty car in the bus lane (stopped) just pulls out because someone "let him in".
    Cue:
"WHAT IS THIS? NATIONAL FUCKING CUNTS DAY??"

  • "WHAT IS THIS? NATIONAL FUCKING CUNTS DAY??"

    Every day.

  • managed to get across all 3 sets of lights at Hyde Park Corner without having to stop (and without jumping a red) for the first time in 4 years of commuting that way. #boastpost

  • Note to self: Tighten bottle cap better next time. Probably still bouncing down the road by now :/

Some mild "cuntishness", cyclists going against traffic where there isn't the room to do so, perhaps they have an appointment with hurry or death or both, and 2 iffy overtakes, but I'm splitting hairs here.
