He's opening it up for debate to see what people think. You can tell from the responses that some people haven't quite grasped it, though, one guy talking about option of going light and fast instead of carrying stocks of food.
Yeah, strange that. Lots of reality distortion glasses being worn.

Didn’t know a lot about him but very sad.

Very sad. I didn't know him but heard of him on the TABR a couple of years ago when he had bad heat exhaustion.

Nice! I'll tell them to keep an eye out for you, think they're on a pair of Cutthroats.

Advice required from you people who ride crazy long distances. Is it true that routes over a certain length can trouble your Garmin and might crash? Someone was speculating to me today that anything over 200 miles might cause difficulties when trying to follow it. If someone wanted to do a longer route, should they break it up into smaller chunks? Thanks in advance.
Asking for a friend ;)

Always split longer rides into chunks of 100k / 60 miles - never had any issues. Maybe TCR graduates might be more knowledged than I

Yes but it can depend. What model Garmin?
-
• #1719
The 800 does 200k.

I've crashed my Touring once when going above 200 km (I don't remember the exact mileage, I think it was closer to 300 than 200) so now I do as @Thrasher said and lived happily ever after. Use fitfiletools to stitch up the .fit after the ride if you wish to do so.

800 on loan currently. I've never used routing before. Probably going run two borrowed 800s - one charging, one active... although no idea how long one takes to charge.

200k and turn virtual partner off.
-
• #1723
The 800 does >800k non-stop, if you're not using navigation.
-
• #1724
My 800, during 24hrs lasts the whole 24hr with no issues (no nav). I've had it crash ~450k into a 700k ride and that was basically terminal.
Are you using it for nav, ie turn-by-turn nav or just following a line or neither?

I've used up to I guess 600k tracks without issue. The problem is if you do have a freeze, or turn it off, etc., a 600k takes an age to load so I typically cut my tracks up into 2-300k chunks.
I've had TBT nav just stop sometimes (probably a track error) so I restart the track - if it's 600k that takes a while compared to 200k.
It looks like there is some small shops along the coast before and after cp3, on that 563km stretch. And there could be a decent town with a smallish change of route, Bokonbayevo. But not much between Naryn and the coast. That would be something like 300km in the mountains. At least that's what it looks like on maps and streetview.
It'll be brilliant in any case, but having arranged resupply wouldn't really be as nice as doing it genuinely in a way anyone could do at any time, as unsupported races usually.
