I did my first build last year and a few things I learnt are:
Sort out your bar and lever position before adjusting your final brake tension.
Have a good selection of ferrules for the cables. Get them right before adjusting your brake tension.
Leave your cables long and uncrimped until you are totally sure that everything is finished. You will end up adjusting your brake cable length multiple times. I think I "finally sorted the rear brake" about 7 times in total.
Own a cable puller tool.
Leave your bars unwrapped until everything else is done.
Remember tyre label to valve line-up, just to avoid the fricken haters.
