Got my first MBP in 2008, lasted till 2014. Got a new one in 2014 and its got 0 problems.
Cant imagine spending 3k on one, think both of mine (albeit 13") were base models with upgraded RAM.

Before dropping that much I'd look into whether the processor vunerabilities which were being slated to slow down machines will affect the current models when the problem gets properly sorted.
if so everyone will likely be looking to upgrade sooner rather than later so buying a long-term machine may not make sense right now.

I'm not sure if there's any upgrade plans on the horizon but the 8th gen intel processors are a fair step up from the 7th gen which is currently in macbook pros so worth a check if they're going to be incorporated soon.

Defo not Cinema Display. Old don’t play with new.

Only for multi core tasks I believe, clock speeds are lower so if your workflow is more single core they’ll be a downgrade.

Really? I’m running a 30” cinema on my 2016 mbp without issues. Why wouldn’t a 27” work with a newer model?

Ill see if this processor vunerabilities are affecting the kaby lake ones. Its a fuckin mine field this, I've had my current MBP since 11 but one of the USB's has failed now and I'm on a machine that can only take one drive at a time which is fuckin murder and I've kinda held out for so long but now its like forcing me to do this. Not ideal a time but is it ever i suppose.

Is that the new Coffee lake or something daft thats the 8th gen? I thought the kaby lake was a great one and a massive jump up from the previous one.
This is always the case the next one seems like the best thing since sliced bread and then they are like hold out for the next one. My issue is as I've said in my previous post my current MBP is failing me and its forcing me to upgrade and since i looked at the 13" and the price is so stupid now I may as well get a 15" considering the extra money isn't all that much and if I get 5 years Id be happy tbh.

It would seem that processor vulnerabilities affected 6th gen, 7th gen(current mac) and 8th gen so new processors too but says at bottom of article that patches were released by HP and stuff to sort this.
Guessing it maybe has been fixed.
Heres the article here.

I'm planning to use a 27" monitor as a tv. Resolution is 2560x1440. Is there any point in getting an Apple TV 4k, or will the old version do? Read somewhere about the 4k downsampling the image for non-4k-tv's, making the end result worse than on a regular apple tv. Can someone enlighten me please?

Why does my iPhone keep saving new contacts into my iCloud account? Default account is already set to Gmail

I've got a mid-2009 MacBook Pro laptop. Its currently original spec, but is getting a bit slow.
Would upgrading to a SSD drive and maxing the RAM out help much, considering its age? Or would this be marginal gains? Is there anything else I could do?

They’re both crucial.

quick look on ebay shows a couple with the exact same specs sold at £420-430.. but ebay charges 10% now and an additional 2.9% from paypal plus some transaction fee so if you’re looking to sell it here probably take these into consideration since you’re paying no fees..

Quick Q, I have an old Denon AVR1906 Amp that I am dragging out of the loft. I want to stream music through it....I used to use an Airport Express but sold it long ago. Is there anything else on the market now that does the same thing ?
Actually anyone know if i can connect it up using the optical out of my Sky Q box as I know they are all on the same network.

Chrome cast audio should do it...
I've had macbook pros for ages, currently on my 3rd one as they've all lasted as work machines for 3-4 years
As ram isn't upgradeable anymore, fill it up now. You might want to get a larger than base model hdd as well, I constantly shuffle projects in and out of dropbox to save space on my 256gb one
