Left out from Burns night - Buckfast makes you...er...run fast

Thanks for posting that - very enjoyable read and a beautiful film :-)
I haven't been on the forum much for the past few years - mainly cos my love for running had overtaken my love for bikes! But now I've found this thread I think I'll be visiting a bit more regularly.

Thanks for the pep talk! I am a newbie runner too so this has been my first setback.
I did 10km tonight, so feeling good about that.

Just did a 10K at roughly target MP. Ohhh boy that was harder than it should have been.

I find this is always the case. I've no idea how I manage to hold pace in a marathon...

• #17262
Probably that 26k you did yesterday?!

Failed to prepare for the Thursday MP/tempo run round Battersea Park this evening. Supposed to be 5 x (1km@95% MP, 2.8km@MP) = 19km (ugh!), but got to the end of 3 reps and needed an emergency toilet stop. D'oh! Still, 11.4km is a decent tempo effort, and hit the paces required (avg. 5:57/m & 5:39/m), then ducked back in to pace a club mate round for another couple of k's around 6m/m. Plus the usual 16 mile round trip on the bike with numb fingers.
Apologies for the mix of metric and imperial. I'm still not sure which I'm gonna use for the race... probably both just to keep my mind occupied.

What’s your marathon target/pb? Those paces seem insanely quick (from someone who is reaching for the 2.50-3hr mark).
-
• #17265
They feel quick! :/ Target pace always seems a bit scary at this stage, plenty of time though. Sub-2:30 is the target (pb 2:30:30), 5:42/m.

last nights marathon pace run (4:15 per km) was a funny one, I'd done a bike vo2 max session in the morning and walked the dog at lunch time, but the only thing I can equate the feelin to was turning too big a gear on the bike, the power was there but it just felt as though I was muscling my way around rather than running smoothly. I figure its a good thing as its training to keep going at race pace even when the body is saying no.
got three new pairs of trainers arriving today, so pretty excited, Hoka One One Clifton in wide as all the others I've tried were too narrow for me, some inov8 road talons and some Asics racing flats for speed work/half marathons. cant work out which shoes they are replacing yet as while all their direct replacements are nearing the end of their lives they aren't quite dead yet.. so just going to hide some at work for now to avoid the 1 in 1 out policy I have at home.

Nice!
Tom made an interesting note that this year's Marrakech marathon is the first time a North African race has paid the same amount in prizes to both Male and Female runners which is pretty great.

Nice to hear. He says it was a really good race, and was only 4 mins off his PB, so clearly a pretty swift course.
I've just entered an ultra in Tunisia later in the year - never run in North Africa before, so looking forward to it.

So we took a bit of a Kent AC mob north this weekend and filled 8 of the top 10 spots, including @PhilPub at Newcastle parkrun as well as having first female finisher. There were some good short red shorts on display and I managed to squeak under 17minutes for the first time in a while. Newcastle is a fast course when there is no wind. 5k is a great distance.

^ ace.
Still no running but will trot around Xc on Saturday coming to see how foot responds.
Didn't post before, latest Meriden medal arrived last week. I'm not usually fussed about mementos but these have plenty of memories attached to them.

Anyone else here other than Tibbs doing the Big Half?
WGAF? This weekend, you could do Watford half - £25 or Craft Half Wimbledon - £25. In the next few weeks, Deal Half - £15, Roding Valley Half - £21.
Why people go for all this over-marketed corporate hoopla when they could be going to way cheaper, friendlier events and helping out local sports clubs and charities is utterly beyond me.
