Deliveroo

  • We have that same issue in my city. McDonald’s are the worst restaurant for wait times. They just seem to ignore the Uber tablet ringing or ignore the riders. I also don’t think there has been any training on deliveries.

I think the staff just don’t care and I can see why, they aren’t getting paid anymore for doing deliveries its just even more work for them. The McDonald’s in my city is absolute chaos during lunch and dinner times.

My friend waited 45mins one time at around 11pm.

  • I only go there when I'm already very close and it's quiet. Otherwise I'd literally rather have no order.

  • I wish I could avoid McDonald’s but they are 95% of our orders here. UberEats only have maybe 5-7 restaurants. Deliveroo have the majority of all the restaurants where I am.

  • If anyone has an UberEATS backpack they don’t want anymore please let me know. I want one so I can stop using the Deliveroo box.

  • There's one of them that in the evening thr shift manager is actually good at his job and gets it ready for you as the timer counts down. I go to that one.
Anyone else have a server outage on uber? All of Glasgow was off on Saturday night

  • Most of the riders I know who have stopped working for Deliveroo all got their full deposit back when they left. I would recommened taking a photo of all your equipment before you return, just incase.

The only issues they had was the person from Deliveroo would hardly ever turn up at the storage unit at the arranged time to return equipment. That might just be a problem in my city though.

  • Why are you quitting out of interest? I was thinking about signing up.

  • I'm in the same boat.

Emailed them and got a reply quite quickly that it was being passed on to the appropriate person, nothing since, that was a couple weeks ago, I should realy email them again.

  • So here is my lil rundown after 5 shifts and of Deliveroo out in the provinces (Cheltenham):

    Good shit;

    • Plenty of work in the 6-9pm slot that works best for me.
    • Bonuses, tips etc mean I think I’m going to average ~ £17phr which I think is ok.
    • 3min ride to start point (from home), 20mins takes me to the furthest deliveries (so far).
    • Assignments aren’t too big/heavy.
    • It’s basically Pokemon Go on bikes. With pizza.
    • I’m riding my bike!

    Bad shit;

    • Only worth doing on nights, the nights you’d rather have other plans.
    • Some restaurants are hilariously slow because busy af (Wagamama) or staffed by goons (Five Guys, Bottle of Sauce, Ask).
    • The bags/jacket suck (though fairly cheap now). Better alternatives have been found.

I have zero experience of rider support (no problems) and they’ve paid promptly and correctly.

    So far so good 😊

Here is a referral link if anyone wants to give it a bash (and get £50).

  • Yeah, anywhere that offers a "dining experience" rather than shovelling food at you as fast as they can, is always going to be a slow pick up. I had a word with one of the staff at Bills in Sheffield and they said that they had asked for a 15 minute prep time but only ever get 10. That automatically means a 5 minute wait on any pick up when it isn't really busy.

The bags are OK but it seems that there is a preference for Stuart bags (except they don't hold a pizza flat). If at all possible, don't bother with the jacket. I turned up to the kit collection wearing a jacket with reflective trim on it and it was given a pass (Ron Hill running windstop). About half the riders just wear their own clothing. I've got a light coloured waterproof that I use when it's raining. It seems unlikely that anyone will ever check on the kit that riders are wearing after they've started.

Next to nothing in tips up here but I'm not that bothered.

  • Where about are you working? It’s good to hear what’s going on elsewhere.

It’s already a bit warm for the official jacket so yeah ... a ‘vintage’ Lance era Nike sofshell is gonna be my work jacket for a bit I think (it’s as yellow as his ego was biiiiiig).

I’m using an @Archie's_Grobags in anger for the first time in years (with a diy insulated liner made from foodsafe foil bubblewrap and .... er ... staples). It’s been pretty great. Very fast to use.

  • Deliveroos requirement for you to have a jacket that 70% of it is reflective is obviously to get you to purchase one of their jackets. How did they come up with the 70% figure?

I can't see how Deliveroo can even enforce this, its not a legal requirement of riding a bicycle, they can't force you to wear uniform due to being self-employed, do they expect you to wear this jacket while on shift in the middle of summer?

I recommend people to buy a cheap hi-vis vest if they don't have anything reflective to take to on-boarding.

I hate Deliveroo as a company, but the money I earn from doing deliveries is good.

  • What's the bag situation like? You have to buy it yourself right? Will I be okay with a random £15 one off eBay? Should I try to buy a Deliveroo bag off someone else?

Also the jacket situation is of interest, I didn't realise you needed a reflective one.

  • I took a reflective bib/vest and insulated (and large enough) bag to onboarding. Both met online specs. Neither were considered 'ok' after being photographed and that photo sent ... wherever (to the head-in-a-jar named Frank that runs this thing?). The lady at Onboarding was nice but had no idea what the required specs for the items were and just said no. I didn't push it. The best thing to do is to buy the items they want you to. They are quite cheap now. Then use whatever works for you going-forward.

As a company I imagine they need to be seen to make a reasonable effort towards safety.

  • I should also mention ... they offer the option to take the payment for kit from your pay. Each pay won't be deducted more than 50%.

The inner-bag, large-bag and jacket together cost £45.

  • Hmm okay, £45 isn't bad at all actually; I thought the bag was £50 by itself for some reason. It's covered by the sign-up bonus even.

Awesome. Just need a new headset and I'll give it a go!

(I've already agree to sign up with @farewell so don't spam me with codes everyone!)

  • I thought the bag was £50 by itself for some reason.

    Old prices were around that.

  • so don't spam me

18 terabytes of midgetporn on it's way to your IP address shortly.

  • Yeah, the big bag use to be £50 but riders were complaining about the cost of replacement equipment so Deliveroo dropped the prices by 50%.

  • I'm working in Sheffield.

  • Generally find the exact opposite.

Any 'fast food' place leaves it till the last minute, or the front staff (in charge of the tablet) have so little fucks given that pressure is always placed on the kitchen.

Proper restaurants, especially those that have previously operated their own delivery (or through just eats etc) are way way way better, rarely put a foot wrong, and can deal with the demand when placed on them.

Theres a whole bunch in between, rule of thumb for me, if the tablet is left with front of house instead of those who make the food, expect shit.

  • Uber in glasgow has just taken a big downsizing of zones and delivery areas. Rumoured that boost is being reduced too but not seen it yet. Wonder if they are feeling the pinch and acting accordingly.

  • Deliveroo did a promotion of an extra £2 per delivery yesterday between 5pm-10pm, so they were paying £6 per delivery. Today they are doing an extra £1 per delivery all day.

  • if the tablet is left with front of house instead of those who make the food, expect shit.

I have noticed this as well.

Sometimes you arrive at the restaurant, the front of house staff notice you, then they look at the tablet, then they disappear into the kitchen. Thats usually the sign for "I forgot to tell the kitchen/didn't notice there is an order, its going to be atleast a 20min+ wait".
