  • I've been pondering the Longines Legend Diver, undecided whether I like the numerals (6 & 9 in particular) but haven't got round to seeing one in the flesh yet

  • That's super nice. Those lugs...

  • I also like

  • My issue with the Legend Diver is in photos it looks absolutely fantastic but then in the flesh it's just a bit... meh. A nice watch no doubt, but I'd save the money and get the Oris Sixty Five.

  • I want one of these:

I can't find one anywhere at rrp. Goldsmiths has a waiting list of over a year.

  • Mate is on the waiting list for one. It was two years but keeps being pushed back.

    They're deliberately restricting supply.

  • They're deliberately restricting supply.

Of course they are. We wouldn't want people to buy them would we?
Waiting for Mappin & Web to get back to me but not hopeful.

  • It was the same for the white gold one they released a few years ago. You have to admire Rolex for managing to maintain a sense of exclusivity despite selling so many watches.

  • I'm more shocked at just how many people can afford Rolexes. Even on an average London salary it's not realistic.

  • Nobody knows how many they sell but people often estimate one million a year. You have to assume that most of those are subs. There are a lot of people happy to spend their annual bonus on a watch if they think it boosts their status...

  • So thanks for bringing this to my attention because it's almost my perfect chrono.

41mm, internal bezel, no hour numbers, the chrono doesn't cut off any hour markers, day/date, and looks good on leather strap and bracelet.

What is a surprisingly difficult combo to find is the same but in 38mm, I'd also like to add a good dome to that list, but day/date is optional.

So Speedmaster is also v close but not perfect, as it has a normal bezel and is 42mm (Speedy reduced is the right size but it feels wrong getting any Speedmaster that isn't the Moonwatch).

Sinn 144 is 41mm, so also close, as is the Junghans Meister Chrono.

I'd also like proper lugs rather than the hidden style of the PD and Sinn

  • This one? It looks entirely different and pretty much like most other divers, or is there one with an internal bezel?

  • First Omega in Space. Size is fantastic.

  • only a small proportion of the watches sold will be so called "professional" pieces ie Submariner , GMT etc . They boost the profile but are not the mainstay of what Rolex is all about. They only account for a small percentage of what we sell.

  • There are two versions. Neither of them look like the Legend. They're just other examples of throwback dive watches. The issue I have with the Longines is that it's so flat for a 'dive watch' that it just looks fucking massive. And I have tiny wrists, so that's my issue really, not the watches.

  • A year plus is a safe bet. We don't even take deposits, we don't have a list as it would just be too long .

  • Anyone in America have them? I am going in March.

Have heard good things about these guys, but, grey market.

  • Probably but I'm not paying over rrp.

That link is ~£4k over list when converted to GBP. If I felt like forking out £16k on one I could have it delivered tomorrow...

  • Interesting. I wouldn't have guessed that . I sit in meetings and see the same Sub Rolesor on half a dozen wrists (including mine) so just assumed it was the most popular model.

  • I have never really understood Daytona. When that new version was launched a couple of years ago we did an event with Rolex in our Windsor showroom to show off the new Basel collection from that year (and Tudor obvs) and people were falling over themselves to see it. Leaves me a bit cold.

  • Not by a long shot. Its the one you remember seeing , but steel Professional pieces make up a tiny number of units made and sold.

  • Yes, I have seen photos where it looks a bit massive. Part of the reason I'm looking to see one in the flesh before committing.

  • I suppose it’s a bit Paul Newman innit. But I’m with you, they do nothing for me.

  • This Longines is one of the nicest Chronos I have seen for a while.

  • That is really lovely.
