Just double check there isn't a restocking fee and what the T&Cs on return are. You don't want to have to cough up £50 insured P&P plus loose 5% and whatever % your fx fees are.

Both Swatch group and LVMH sales were up last year. And I'm not aware of any change in attitude toward Grey Market apart from the introduction of electronic warranties that have to be activated by the receiving AD at point of sale. This is now common with Rolex, Tudor, Breitling, and Tag Heuer.

How are sales compared to five years ago?

I know of two non accredited distributers who are receiving grey market watches directly from the manufacturer in return for a say in how big the discounts are that they offer, bound by a non disclosure agreement. Neither UK based, both in Europe.

I can't remember what happened yesterday let alone 5 years ago.
All I'm saying is the brands are not changing in attitudes towards unauthorised stockists who are obtaining stock from God knows where, hence the introduction of electronic warranties.
But we all like a bargain, so as I have said before you pays your money you take your chances.
And yes some grey market dealer may offer a two year warranty , but if you get a problem on your complicated mechanical watch, who gonna sort it out . Not the factory, so do you want somebody whose not trained by them ? I know in most cases an ETA 2824 is an ETA 2824 but what about something that is genuinely different.

Actually, a thought did just cross my mind.

I have used the same guy to service and repair Rolexes for ten odd years. He is Rolex approved. I have only ever taken vintage watches to him.

If I had a defective 18 month old submariner without paperwork, would he work on it? My gut feeling is probably...although obviously at my expense.

Of course he would. But if you are paying him, you may as well pay Rolex.

I like to support small family run businesses where possible, but fair enough.

Anyway, my point of view on whether grey market watches are worth it is YES but only if you can afford to pay for a repair in the unlikely event that you need one. And in all likelihood, a repair to a mid level watch like a Rolex or Omega will cost more than the savings you make with a grey market dealer.

On a different note. This came in today. Only a year after we ordered it at Basel.

One of my watch discoveries of 2017 is that Longines and Eterna make some stunningly good value watches. I'm becoming quite a fan of Longines in particular.

I know , they have always been one of my favourite brands. That watch pictured is £1330 .
The compressor dive watch they do is only £1600 .

I really like that, except for the stud things for hour markers on the odd-hours.
