I've done about 11,000k on a SP PD 8. @arup built it for me and its never even needed truing, i'm no lightweight either so i'm not sure I buy into the Son building a stronger wheel thing.
Its always worked, bearings are still fine, I use it for charging stuff and lights. The 5 year warranty is longer with the SON which is maybe worth it over the life of the product though.
I take your point, sp hubs are generally loved for guud reason no doubt. 11k km on your hub is big miles. My particular issue is due to poor parts choice, I have too few spokes and limited clearances. Expensive mistake.
