Can you help to identify these frames, bikes or parts?

  • @spiderpie,

I knew the guys from Flanders personally. It's a Belgian brand from Oudenaarde. Frans Assez was the founder, his brother Luc was shopkeeper and Frans' son Ronny used to be a pro in some obscure mid-nineties teams. They had about everything, going from kids' bikes to high end road frames. Never had any own production, bikes came from different Belgian frame builders (and later from Asia). They had lots of crappy bikes but also some nice steel frames in the nineties. I used to have one that was made from Columbus crimped tubing (cfr. Colnago Master from the nineties).

That's great information thanks so much. Mine has the crimped tubing almost identical to my buddy's Colnago, and a similarly rad paint job.

I'll try post a picture later on. Thanks again!

  • You're welcome!
They were copycats, yes. I used to have a cheaper aluminium one too and that came with a fake Merckx paint scheme. :)

They used to have an amateur club too (my brother raced for them) and several UK cyclists were in it. Guys that came to Belgium to race and earn some money (from May till September one could race nearly on daily basis and some of the better guys earned up to 1500 € a month with it).

  • Rad! So the frame is likely to be a Belgian made Colnago copy, painted and branded by Flanders?

    Here's a crappy pic:

  • Haha, yes, that's definitely Flanders signature. ;)

You should build it and come to Belgium to ride the "Ronde van Vlaanderen" hills near Oudenaarde and visit their shop. Nowadays it's Ronny who runs it (Frans died some years ago and Luc retired).

  • It's unfortunately a touch too small for me so it's probably going to be regifted. Sounds like a great ride though.

  • So is that Columbus Gilco tubing or something else which they crimped themselves?

  • It's Columbus but not exactly Gilco. Gilco S4 tubing was designed by Gilberto Colombo exclusively for Colnago (and produced by Columbus - Antonio Colombo is a relative of Gilberto). In that meaning all other crimped tubing isn't "Gilco design" but just Columbus. I have a Carrera with the same crimped tubing and that is labeled "Columbus Nivacrom".

  • @spiderpie you can always give it to me. I will give it a warm homecoming. ;-)

  • Can anyone help ID this frame?

Sartori doesn't come up on Google with Geliano so presume that's not a model?

    2.3 bare, Cinelli BB

    Thanks

  • Looking for clues on what tubing this is, possibly Brain?

No tubing stickers, and groupset is not original. Pretty sure the forks are not original either.

Massi is Spanish, and they didn't reply to my cry for help identifying/catalogues.

It is fractionally larger diameter than Koga Miyat FM-1, but I haven't taken calipers to it yet.

Might be worth getting in touch with them? They still seem to be in business as Cycles Duret-Geliano.
I would think that Sartori was the name of the owner/rider of the frame rather than a model.

  • Hi, can anyone help me identify this frame?
I bought it as a bike, knowing only that it had an interesting frame and quality parts. I've done some research since then and would now hazard a guess that the frame has been built by one of the Soens family (famous Liverpudlian family of frame builders)- going by the fact that it has the seatstay cluster done in the semi wrap-around and lapped design, characteristic of the majority of their frames. I have seen many semi wrap-around examples, and a few lapped ones, but very rarely both of these features done together on non Soen frames. I also have a good idea that the frame would be a 50's era one- which was the time when most of the Soens frames were produced (research tells me that it's non an Eddie Soens one though- the most common Soens frame of this period). I'm saying 50's because the frame has Nervex (not Pro) lugs per the stamping on the bottom bracket shell, whom ceased to manufacture lugs in the late 50's/early 60's. And also because the frame's steerer tube is stamped A&P (Accles & Pollock) who were a tubing manufacturer that ceased producing cycle tubing in the late 50's. The frame itself might not be A&P tubing though, as I realise several frame builders using it had frames made from 531, but reserved the forks for the other tubing for some reason. But one thing that might look to contradict the frame's era is that many of the parts the frame has on it are 70's era. IMO the frame has been repainted, and I suppose that the bike strip-down necessary for doing this was also an excuse for exchanging some of the original spec kit for stuff available at the time, likely 70's kit. I don't think the quite unusual type of brakes would have been replaced though, and the particular ones on the bike were definitely available during the fifties. There's also an Hetchins headbadge decal applied, but it hasn't been lacquered on, and the fact that there's another decal that has had the lacquered treatment would seem to indicate that the bike's original decals weren't replaced at the time of the repaint job, but instead, I'd guess that the decal was applied at some later time just to give the bike some kind of identity. Another of the frame's distinctive features is that the frame number seems quite unusual in that it doesn't have any letters included, and is also quite short. I've discovered that another forumer looking to ID a frame with a similar format number to this found out that the only well known builder he could find that doesn't use letters is Bob Jackson, but I think that many of their numbers were five digit ones, and the 50's ones seem to be in the region of 3000+ during the 50's?
Anyway, some basic specs of the frame/bike are that the bike weighs in at 11kg 400g, seatpost diameter is 27.2mm and both sets of dropouts are unbranded and look to be of mediocre quality (although the front set are the unusual 'vampire' design). And there's no front derailleur braze on, so it looks like the frame was designed for single chainwheel use only, as how it's currently set up. And, of course, the tourer style can't brakeset is also quite distinctive- especially for a frame which seems more racing oriented, it having no typical tourer braze ons like those for pannier racks, fork lamp bracket etc.
So, to sum up- I'd say this is a mid to high end frame, especially if it is actually a Soens frame, and also going by the fact that it's been renovated and constantly maintained down the years, which is the kind of treatment that would be a waste/unlikely on just a mediocre frame.
    So any advice gratefully received:)

  • From that measurement you'd be needing the CS-201 26mm lockring rather than the 27mm ones.

  • Hey, guys. I’m trying to figure out what seatpost this is. It looks like campagnolo, but there are marks on it, no logos and as you see it’s been cut. Taken out from selle san marco rolls saddle that was on my dave russell frame. Anyone? :)
