  • Tifosi Cavazzo

    Diamondbank Haanjo Carbon

    Both carbon touring bikes

Am I looking at the same bikes? They're not tourers

  • Tifosi Cavazzo

Headtube seems very short for a touring bike.

  • Geometry seemed to said it's a normal stack and reach.

TBF, it's not a touring bike if you're thinking of something like the Genesise Tour de Fer, or the Surly Disc Trucker, but it's defintely considered a touring bike in term of bike packing with a bit of rack (the Diamondback have a rear rack mount).

  • the DiamondBack comes stock with a bloody triple, touring bike as fuck

  • Its 2×11 speed drivetrain has a gear for every gravel grind and headwind, keeping your cranks spinning when the going gets rough. Whether it’s a grand fondo, a beer run, or daily commuting, the Haanjo Comp Carbon is one bike that really can do it all.

Seems to come with a double and no mention of touring in the description (apart from geometry comparison)

    https://www.diamondback.com/haanjo-comp-carbon

Edit: oh my mistake, there's several models, one does come with a 3×9 and bar ends, which is a classic tourer setup

  • Stack seems to be about 25mm less than a Croix de Fer with equivalentish reach. It's a bit lower but not that lower. Either way, it's got rack mounts front and rear, which makes it a touring bike in my book.

Depends what you mean by touring bike though. If your idea of a touring bike is something you can strap the entire contents of your house to, then it might not be ideal.

  • Well, carbon's out of my budget anyway, but with full camping gear, spare parts and clothes for a week you easily surpass bikepacking bag capacity I think. In which case you need full-blown racks.

Might go with a bivvy bag and tarp next time I go touring, would save me a couple of kilos probably.

  • Both the Tifosi and the Diamondback have rack mounts front and rear, so no need for bikepacking. Not that I'd buy either as a touring bike, mind you.

  • I keep getting told off on here for talking about racks on carbon forks!

The other problem is failure. If I overload a carbon frame I'm out >£1000; I almost certainly can't accidentally overload a Straggler, TdF, etc.

  • Even worrying about it falling over. Steel could take a dent and keep going for thousands of miles, a crack in carbon could be instant game over

  • The other problem is...

...that you seem to be in moon on a stick territory.
Strong, light, cheap; pick any two.

  • Also, just to provide more food for thought/pour petrol on the flames, an interesting interview with Joe McEwan (Starling Cycles) on crabon fribé. Written with MTBs in mind but lots of interesting points on specific properties of carbon and its use/manufacture.

  • I want strong and "cheap". That's why I'm looking at 4kg frames like the Straggler et al. At no time have I ever want a carbon fibre touring frame

  • HAving a quick scan, sounds more like you're after a 'randonneur' frameset.

    Twin Six
    https://www.twinsix.com/products/standard-rando-frameset-black?variant=6044881539

    All City Space Horse Disc:
    https://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/frames-forks-c6/road-frames-c47/space-horse-disc-frameset-p17361

Though I would also agree with others on the Arkose, The new Pinnacle Pyrolite sounds like it would suit. No frameset or fork only option - I've asked.

Alternatively, get an Arkose frameset and this fork:
    https://www.bike-discount.de/de/kaufen/cube-travel-gabel-disc-black-n-green-684660
Aluminium with rack mounts but tapered headset and Postmount Discs.

  • For some reason I decided against the Twin Six although I can't now remember my reasoning. Might've been the potential import costs. All the frames I'm interested in are on a spreadsheet though so I'll add it. Space Horse Disc is already on there, unfortunately probably a bit more expensive than I'd like. Could probably chuck the spreadsheet up on here for others to access/edit if anyone else is looking for a new frame although it is obviously geared towards my needs at the moment.

Aluminium forks with rack mounts? Sounds sketchy... I'd be worried about fatigue. Or is steel blades, alu steerer? Or steel steerer, alu blades?

Either way I found out last night that as I was paid slightly in advance I'm (most likely) not going to be paid for the next 9 months so this project might go on hold for now! (I'm doing a PhD, it's just what happens in your last year. I'm not being ripped off or anything (well I am, but not illegally)).

  • Really like that twin six frameset, especially with all the cool colours. Too bad it's not thru axle (and cheap steel).

  • And Crust and Rawland

  • The thing with the Twin Six is it doesn't have a bsc bottom bracket shell :(

  • The thing with the Twin Six is it doesn't have a bsc bottom bracket shell :(

Can't this simply be solved by installing a PF30 to BSA adapter?

  • Perfect for single speed setups.

  • Just get an Arkose and be done with it.

Cheapest one plus Juin Tech F1 and bob your uncle

  • Can we rename this thread "just get an arkose"

  • Who still buys aluminium?

  • Betting there are more aluminium frames sold each year than steel
