Remembered about this film recently when I saw Willem Dafoe in The Florida Project.

Basically anything with Isabelle Adjani or Richard Bohringer in.

Le Bossu-1997.
18th century swashbuckling and one of my favourite French films.
Daniel Auteuil is great in the lead role. -

Another great French film-
The Wages of Fear (1953)
directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot -

I prefer the remake of this by Friedkin.

I'd say Fascination as a start. It probably hits all of his good notes and is pretty good for "I like this/do not like this" litmus, as once in Rollins world, its difficult to get out :)
Shiver of the Vampires is the stone cold classic, but more typical "euro horror"
Iron Rose is a masterpiece, def his high moment for me. Stunning work.

Which film -
Le Bossu or The Wages of Fear ?
Didn't know either were remade -
• #35
Wages of Fear. It got itself a 70s remake with Friedkin directing, Roy Scheider and an imperial period Tangerine Dream soundtrack.

Thanks for the Rollin recommendations

Didn't know it existed and that poster is superb.

I think it had a remaster recently as its been doing the rounds of some of the cinemas. Soundtrack is superb as well and, in true nerd trainspotter fashion, it gets a good reuse in The Warriors trailer

By chance, it seems as though Sorcerer is getting a showing on Filmfour tomorrow night. I can't remember the last time it was shown on the telly!

Mark Kermode loved it on a recent Wittertainment podcast. Also gave some good background info on its gestation.

Its well worth a watch. I've always loved it, but I like films that are a bit of a mad adventure.

I'll be Humaxing it for future viewing.

Oh, Mark Kermode...

Yuen Woo-ping is a Chinese martial arts choreographer and film director who is very well known.
However I think the early films directed by him are overlooked and IMHO they are some of the greatest Kung-fu films ever made.
The best in my eyes were made between 79'-82'
Magnificent Butcher, The Buddhist Fist, Dreadnaught & The Miracle Fighters -

The poster artwork for these is also great.

I'm a fan of the Shaw Brothers, but have never heard of YWP.
At least I didn't think I had, but I was just about to mention my favourite recent martial arts flick is Kung Fu Hustle and when I checked saw he'd choreographed some of the fight scenes.
And they're outstanding. Throw in some laughs, a bit of magical realism and a little Baz Lurhmann and you have some solid entertainment!

Shaw brothers are certainly great.
There is a special quality to YWP early films which makes them stand out and The Miracle Fighters is something else with comedy and a supernatural /magic /fantasy edge.

The Shaw Bros film I really wanna see is Shatter. Mainly because I'm a long time Hammer completist and also because it looks fantastic.
