  • Had 4 or 5 working dogs on the go at any one time on the farm when I grew up - mostly border collies with occasional novelty Huntaway/sporadic Beagle etc.

I would say that I'm happy to be friendly to dogs, but I'd never want to have one as a pet. I can't handle my mother in law visiting at the best of times - especially now that she insists on abusing her lab retriever by overfeeding it, inexplicably shouting at it and generally being the shittest owner I've ever met - resulting in a confused, arthritic, overweight, unsociable mess at just 5 years old.

I'm also not a big fan of our neighbours who have two enormous white shepherds that they keep in a tiny 2 up 2 down, only sporadically letting them into the back garden. They've never left the house. Neighbour is tiny and the dogs are uncontrollable. When we moved in we had low fences (flimsy and rotten at that). When we did the kitchen I was carrying a delivery in at night with my arm near the edge - he jumped up and bit me, drawing blood. 7 foot reinforced fences went up the next day.

csb - idiots shouldn't be allowed to own dogs.
