  • Looking at commuting in from Wimbledon to Canary Wharf. Question for the regulars on CS7 and CS3. What are they like? When is the best time to go on them? I usually get to work for 8 but can go earlier or later. Any sections to avoid/ reroute?

  • I do Cs7 Wimbledon to Stockwell, it's ok going in, at about 0700ish it's more grief coming home and having to deal with the stretch from Tooting Bec onwards which is full of wankers both in cars and pedestrians. There is also a high nodder count on the route

  • CS3 is ok but a bit annoying since the 2 lanes are together on 1 side of the road for a lot of it, meaning it's really hard to overtake when busy. Otherwise fine, don't use it too much at peak times tho.

  • Wonder if anybody has decided to stop rljing from getting shouted at or being in an argument on here.

I don't shout at rljers, but I'm not about to piss on the parade of anyone that does!

  • ^ jinx

  • Last time I shouted was on Bishopsgate when I'd stopped to let a lady cross and he blasted through. I caught up and yelled "You should have stopped!" and he said "Sorry, no brakes". I don't shout any more.

  • I witnessed a fellow cycle commuter shouting at someone for RLJing the other day. The shouter was doing a very bad track stand and over the next 30 seconds proceeded to slowly wobble over the stop line and into the middle of the ped crossing himself. Later in our journey he undertook a left indicating bus. I couldn't stop humming this for the rest of my trip, which was annoying.

  • Made the switch to super wide risers. Now leaving rubber skids on street furniture as well as the road. No ragrets.

I do Morden to Clerkenwell on CS7 and pretty much agree with this entirely.

Leaving at 7am from wimbledon at the latest is recommended, the traffic is much more free flowing and the number of strava wankers and clueless cyclists is much lower (until the ones who live closer wake up and join you around stockwell) coming home it's a random clusterfuck no matter what time you ride.

the bit about tooting is spot on as well, expect/anticipate every car might turn across you in/out of sidestreets, pedestrians will walk out in front of you without looking as well as just stand in the middle of the road for no good reason or just look you in the eye and step out in front of you. East london comes a close second for weapons grade morons but tooting somehow pips it to the post. coming home the best thing to do is take primary at tooting bec and just power down the hill behind the car in front covering your brakes the entire way.

in general though cs7 is fine all the way up to E&C, the only thing that really can hold you up is when idiots block junctions (oval is bad for this) and there's no way around them cars blocking entry to the bus lane forcing buses to stack up through the junctions is a favourite pastime of theirs.

  • Great. Thanks for all the responses!

    Early it is

  • Whereabouts in Wimbledon are you? When I lived there I used to head up past Wimbledon Park station, cut through to Earlsfield and then pick up Earlsfield Road up to Clapham Junction. Once you're across Clapham Common there was a good quiet way that ran parallel with CS7 almost all the way to Oval.

  • First overtaken by a woman in a "chelsea taxi" one hand using the phone the other stuffing a croissant into her face. Then had some dick on a scooter with a delivery box on the back trying to intimidate me out of the way.

  • Yep that very much works for me - I’ll give it a go thanks!

  • I'm going to start shouting at people who start shouting at people who start shouting at people who start shouting at people who start shouting at people who shout at RLJs.

  • At all other times, where that exact number of 'start shouting at people who' doesn't apply, I'm gonna just like be real chill and let people do what they gotta do. Cos like wind it in yeah?

  • Managed to just avoid bike travelling opp. direction on embankment cycle route. They indicated to turn across me. Ok, they had room to so so. Then they couldn't find space in the right turn box, wobbled and then fell almost at my feet. Just missed them. Don't think the bloke on my wheel was too impressed.

  • I got told off for RLJing yesterday morning. It was pretty weird because it was by someone who was safely crossing the road in front of me as I was stopped at a red light. "You know red lights apply to you too right?" "Yeah, that's why I fucking stopped".

I mean, I do RLJ from time to time but they don't know that.

  • Did you glance at the light or audibly exhale or something else equally provocative. You’ve only yourself to blame.

  • Chelsea Embankment works seem to be making my commute home nicer. (I use the Embankment between Lambeth and Battersea Bridges.)

With it closed for cars Westbound there's hardly any traffic on the run up to it and it's still quite empty after rejoining the road after Battersea Bridge. I did do it at 5pm though, it might be a bit busier closer to 6pm.

  • I ended up in a full on facedown with a pissed twat who threw a bottle of beer at me while crossing the road. It was a red light and I was trackstanding, I had been trackstanding for some time, this guy started crossing just as the lights turned amber and I started to go, saw him, and stopped again back into a trackstand, he screamed at me that it was a red light and threw his beer at me, despite the fact that by that point it was green for me and he'd started crossing on a red man, so I followed him on to the pavement and thought about a drive by punch to the back of the head but settled for calling him a cunt to his face.

  • You only need one guess

  • Apparently two then, Stella.
