  • I love my house, best thing I've ever bought...

  • It's stinking hot over here right now, I had to close the windows to get the aircon going and I managed to kill a gekko who was living in the tops of our window frames... Squished his bottom half as he attempted to escape, very depressed afterwards... I love gekkos, we share the house with loads of them... #csb #peninsulalife

  • I've just had my flat roof re-covered and although it seems fine from a watertight point of view the water doesn't seem to drain off that well. There are quite a few puddles that last a fair while after it rains, is this something to be concerned about?

  • I would be more concerned if they vanished rapidly- or more rapidly than evaporation could account for, rather.

  • exchanged.

what's the thread hive mind pro tip regarding packing boxes 4 cheapz?

  • i'll give em a tinkle. cheers ears.

  • I could drip feed you one large Hello Fresh box a week.

  • Also look on local freecycle sites etc for 'proper' moving ones.

You can ask supermarkets for boxes as well. eg old crisp boxes work well for books/records/cds as they are a not-too-heavy size - but they aren't terribly robust for anything more valuable.

  • For srs tho, we ordered loads off of Amazon for cheapz. You can get extra strength ones for books and that and cheaper, thinner walled ones for regular stuff. Usually comes in kits with bubble wrap, packing tape and markers.

  • I've got a load if you can make your way to TW

  • Cheers boys.

We're gonna hit up the local shops tommorow, see how far we get.

  • So, made an offer on a different flat with a different EA after foxtons didn't manage our last offer very well (they actually came back to us this week to ask if we'd still be interested if our offer was accepted, but it's put us off that property now).

Anyway offered 10% under asking again with a view to hopefully settling on 8% under asking. This is on the basis that we know nobody else has even viewed the flat since it went on the market in October. 10% under was declined so I made it clear that 8% under was our max.

Anyway, it seems to have caught the seller attention as he has come back with a counter offer of 6% under asking. I still feel that's a bit high, but I can see where this is going. It's very obvious he's hoping to meet in the middle.

So here's the thing. Given we know nobody has looked at it since it went on the market, do we hold our ground on the 8% under offer? We could prob meet in the middle but it's right at the upper end of our budget.

  • What do people do with all those boxes once they have moved ? Can you hire them what like you used to do with the old Tea chest boxes ?

  • In my experience you have to sneak them into the recycling a couple at a time, so that they stop clogging up all the shelf space in the garage.

  • Hold.

Take car. Go back to Foxtons say what ya got for me.

Kill Phil. Tell new place that old place has come back.

    So it's 8% under please.

Grab the missus. Go to the Winchester. Have a pint.

  • Could you not offer them to people currently in the process of moving ?

  • I paid a tenner or so to Croydon Council for a bulk recycling pick up as I was without car at the time. Otherwise as Dammit says, sneak them into regular recycling.

  • "15 moving boxes free for pickup"
"Can you deliver to North London?"
"Can you post them all to Norwich?"
"I need twice that number of boxes, but only half as large, could you cut them in half please?"
"I can only come round in working hours, you'll be there right?" [never turns up]

So yes, I could offer them - but there's a reason I've ended up recycling them.

  • See also why I ended up giving away a fairly significant amount of money in parts to the only people who could bother to turn up to my house to pick them up, rather than dealing with selling them.

  • You missed out the bit where someone messages you with

"alright m8 are the boxes still going if you give me £10 I'll take em my number is...call me thanks Ken"

  • S0 did you try to get rid of them on a famous cycling forum ?

  • I tried to shift a load of boxes on here, after a month I’d shifted about half a dozen leaving me to take 30 to the recycling centre.
