It doesn't really mean much, I don't really pay attention to numbers since I'm normally doing what I'm told which is higher rep sets to failure and it's still piss poor compared to proper lifters. He thought he'd treat me to an hour of deadlifts (I like them so, fine by me). Coachiepoos was more pumped about it than I was. My grip is becoming a bit of a limiter now though, especially after an hour's worth with no gloves. Need to bring some mitts in I reckon.

Congrats on the PR - see what your coach thinks of straps. No sense limiting your workload because hands are the weak link. Gloves are the worst.
(Also, cant see that link. Might be an issue my end. Where's it linked from?)

What weight did you lift?
What grip did you use? -

He was going to bring some in for me to try but forgot.

Normal grip. It's not heavy enough that I need reverse, which is also why I'm not saying how much it was :)

Google Photos. Odd, I checked it was public using another browser

You could try the thumb below your fingers - I forget the name of this grip (old age). I use this grip and it is an improvement over the normal grip. You get used to it quite quickly.
Also, you can improve you grip with these -

Won't you crush your thumb on the bar?
It's not so much that I'm losing grip yet, it's just the bar tearing my callused hands up after repeated reps.

Oh, I see, I would've stuck it further under. How does it help though? Because you're locking your thumb more.

I have a poor enough grip and the hook grip helps. Again, I’m not lifting that much my deadlift PB is around 140kg but I think I could surpass that with minimal effort - just getting the time to build up to it is the issue.

Calloused hands are your fault!!! They develop because of poor grip technique. Mark Rippetoe mentions this - possibly in YouTube. Callouses develop because of a skin fold when you grip the bat - adjust your grip to remove the fold. Have a look on YouTube for his info.

Had horrible lower back pain yesterday which seems to have been from a combination of DOMS/tightness in hams and having to jump from the top of a couple of tricky boulder problems (as apposed to down-climbing). Was really worried it was the return of a previous injury but luckily today it's 90% better.
Remember to stretch, folks.

Have a look at this -

I'll try and remember that grip for next time. I'm going tomorrow but can't imagine I'll be doing more deads.
This gym has wooden floors and only tiny deadlift matts/sponges - if I let go it's going through the floor. :)

I'm ... not thin

Not in country so maybe that's got something to do with it? Thanks for the earlier summary anyway!

If I had any advice it would be to buy Mark Rippetoe’s book - Starting Strength - all the info is there.

I've seen his grip setup for squats where he angles the hands but not deads. I'll have a look.
It's not just deads that are callousing my hands though so there's more to look at.

It's actually been in my Wish List for months. If I bought it people might think I'm taking gym work seriously though and I can't have that.

Where are you?
No, it sounds like a good price.
Mine's a BSc and has worked with pro types, so I can't imagine she's tucking me up.
£90 sounds more like what I'd expect to be charged in the Metrop.
