Tempted by the 2hr version but is that more of a sprint?
It's more fun and you don't need a pit bitch / buckets of drinking water / food.

• #11003
Ok, I'm in for the 2hr fun / kids / wimps version.

• #11004
thanks for the heads up
They have only size 260 and 270 left (too small for me), £92.50, great deal for people with UK9 or smaller feet!

Sage advice
Same goes for wheel deep, icy ruts.

• #11006
Gear lower than you think.
Lower still.
Nope, even lower.

Anyone got a 19t? Think a 20t will be too much... I can always
runwalk up hills. -
• #11008
What chainring?
-
• #11009
32t, 29er
-
• #11010
Get a 22t
-
• #11011
32x19 is too big
-
• #11012
It's only a 4hr race. I've been fine up to 3hrs on 32/18 (have previously ran 17). It's not Strathpuffer ;)

Depends very much on the course, your fitness, duration of race, etc etc...
"carefully prepared courses that go through heath and pine woodland with flowing and testing singletrack mixed in with swooping trails and stone fire roads that wind through the wonderful Hampshire and Surrey countryside."
You're not going to be climbing Snowdon then :-)

MINly is all up hill
-
• #11015
ALL uphill? Golly. Maybe 20t then. Not running a 22t, I've got to cycle 5 miles from the station which would take approx 7 hours on 32/22

• #11016
the SS dilemma; enjoy riding to the trails, or enjoy riding the trails
-
• #11017
SS rigid - enjoy neither!
-
• #11018
What's the bike? Any way to swap when you get there?
-
• #11019
Singular Swift. EBB so potentially doable but not really worth the hassle with tools. I've got plenty of time, I'll just enjoy the warmup.

• #11020
dinglespeed ftw

• #11021
I think I rode 32x22 to third overall at Brighton Big Dog last year. That was six hours and Big Dog is up the same steep hill six times a lap. I'd probably go 32x20.

• #11022
Minly exists in its own loamy alternate reality
-
• #11023
Similar course to Torq?
-
• #11024
Right then, anyone got a 20t? Wide base, 3/32.

Planning on coming back to to ride the Surrey Hills on a weekend when warm winter hits.
Let me know if anyone wants to meet up for one of the days for a ride. I'll make an event thread then. Might do late summer/early autumn.
I thought that was just for juniors... oops.
