  • I hear you... I'm keeping an eye out but for now this will have to be silver Rival 10speed rear mech and shifters with the Athena cranks shown...

Brake wise I'm thinking either some silver campag skeletons or get Tektro 559 in silver to pre-empt a future chrome fendered 650b randonee conversion...

  • I'm on the hunt for a NOS/ near new Vittoria Open Corsa SC in 25mm if anyone has one lurking in a cupboard?

  • Damn, this is looking great! I agree with @Thrasher on the cranks

  • Matching tyre for the rear turned up today!
Can't get the bastard HWY bars to fit the Pro Ti stem though... Bugger...

  • .

  • looking great indeed. love this gazelle colour scheme. wheels are ace.

  • Looking good, presume you've tried the coin in the clamp trick?

  • Very promising build. Keep it up!

and grease on the bars ?

  • @jambon yeah the issue is the geometry of the bend vs the width of the clamp... I can get it on perfectly back to front but if I want it the correct way around the drop won't allow the bottom of the quill to rotate past it so the narrower clamp area moves around the inside shoulder of the transition area of the bar... I should probably photo/draw a diagram to explain it better... It's not going to work regardless :(

  • Also kind of regret not going 650b already!
    Hmm...

  • One of the problems of compact bars in quill stems I guess. Open face stem then ? Deda Murex ? 3TTT Mutant ?

I've gone Nitto for compact bars and quill stem. Will hopefully fit together when I try them tonight...

  • It sounds like you've tried every which way but when fitting my Nitto bars to my 3t quill stem I put them in the freezer in a vein effort to not scratch the logos. Liberal amounts of lube too. Also wouldn't beat yourself up about not going 650b, when they fall out of fashion you might even be pleased you didn't go that route?

  • Cinelli Oyster will solve your problem, or any decent hinged stem.

  • Been a while... sloooooow progress...

  • In other news, whilst discussing 650b wheel options for this with @TheShipwright I discovered that ikea spanners double as sprint wheel carriers... hope to test this out on the road soon!

  • Some gentle crimping could do the trick...? :)

  • Yeah, this^. But first move the wheel back in the dropouts and see if that's enough. Remove the adjuster screws.
