they give good leverage climbing and accelerating
a year or two after the forum started narrow bars were all the rage, you should have seen some of the narrowness
last year gumwall tyres were oh so popular
once upon a time people could just sit on a seatpost and be happy, nowadays they need their seatpost to be able to go up and downit's a fast moving market, bars have reached their zenith, they start reducing soon
and yes some bars are a tad wide, if you look like jesus on the cross when riding wide bars they're too wide

Or...
Saying that, Superstar did have bars that were an exact yard a couple years back. Not sure if they still do them.

This was actually where I trained...
"Although this bar in Victoria, Australia was once in the Guinness Book of World Records for its 299-foot length, it was unfortunately cleared away in order to make room for more poker machines in 1995. Some people have no respect for a good world record."and is why I hate poker machines.

A guy (definitely on here) passes me every morning with aforementioned bars, but he tucks in with his hands right next to the stem. I don’t get it.

i think we all need to measure ours and put that info up on the thread
lets see who got the
biggestwidest
On my way home last night I was passed by a guy going the opposite direction who's brerklerss fixehbeik had bars so wide I could see the guy was visibly uncomfortable trying to reach them. Things looked like they were about 1m wide. Just now, I saw a bike locked up outside my work with huge wide bars and a brake mounted about halfway along one side of the bars, clearly demonstrating the rider can't actually reach the full width.
Also, all the ones I see generally have no grips, tape or even bar ends so dread to think of the implications in a crash.
I can understand the purpose of big ol wide bars on the mini velodromes, but on the street? Some of these bars are wider than the length of the stick I use to shake at kids to get off my lawn. Pesky kids.
