Does it go without saying that if anyone has older pieces or even an old tub of it back at their parents that if they wished to be ridding themselves of it that I am sure others within this thread might possibly want to give them a reasonable price for it...

Is that the sort that's now worth a bomb?
Surprisingly, much less than I was expecting. For example, we have 6980 (the Galactic Commander, big cool space ship) boxed etc. but it seems to top out around £70 on ebay. That said, it's not a terribly liquid market I don't think so there's quite a lot of variance in price.

I was a bit disappointed that we'd sold some of the lego i really liked, fire station and police station notable favorites but i also realised you can re-buy them for about £15-£20 on bricklink

6980 (the Galactic Commander, big cool space ship)
Hm, there is that thing about the early Space stuff in that the sets following the initial ones are widely seen as not as good. I think of that series the smaller ship is OK but I think they overdid it with the special pieces in the large one and it doesn't look great. I'm certainly biased--the first series came out in 1979, when I was 6/7.
This is a useful video in which JANGBRiCKS, who seems to be one of the most extreme aficionados out there, shows all of the Space stuff:

I still think the original stuff is hands down the best (although LL924 as conceived looks ugly and needs to be modified with a better nose). I certainly never liked the white-and-blue colour scheme. (I'm sure there are lots of people who think it's great.)
Look at what someone has done to LL928--I don't really like it, I think it's overkill and (obviously deliberately) destroys its original simplicity:

These early sets fetch far more than the later ones.

On another note, I'm always amazed that people were able to keep such sets together. I always rebuilt everything lots of times, lost stuff, swapped with friends, etc.

Very lazy to only do half. Next! :)

If you're lucky, the stuff you liked is really cheap. (I'm not.)

I have a mate that regularly builds stuff, here's his page: https://www.flickr.com/photos/genecyst/

I had large chunks of the classic space lego stuff. I miss the 'alternate build ideas' they used to add to the booklets. It was always fun reverse engineering them based on just a picture or two.
We have this ultra rare set - only ever released marketing gift from the manufacturer. Fortunately @LongAndWinding knows people.

Does he make blocky computer games, too? I like those.

Yes! He did a couple for GBA/NDS

We used to rebuild lot too, but my dad was always really insistent on everything being put away in its own box at the end of the day (not just Lego, we've got a load of boxed playmobil too...). 30 years later, it was all found in his loft boxed, covered and organised.
Thanks for the space post - that stuff seems a pretty wide range. I definitely remember a few more that we have - it's funny how some had been wiped from memory, but seeing them again they look so familiar.

My grandad bought me the original Technics car, I've got the instructions still - not sure I have all the parts required, but I'd like to build that again to go with my newer cars.

Forgot this--I used to like that, too. You are aware of the LEGO Creator alternatives, aren't you?
Not all sets are like that, but many have different models, not always quite with the same bricks, and with full instructions included.

Think of all the happy wheel building they’re missing out on... (big people construction toys!)
