Darkest Hour. 8.5/10

It Follows. Good fun, not too many jump scares, just lots of dread. Looked amazing but the cinematography was maybe a little too slick considering the premise is so ridiculous.

You’re generous. I’d say 6.5, at best. That tube scene was comical.

Girl on the train - bit farcical really......and unnecessarily bloody, even I winced...
6/10

I like that they shoehorned in an educated black man so as not to seem to Brexity

Saw 3 Billboards last night.
I really enjoyed it. Plenty of laugh out loud moments and super dark humour.
Would recommend.

i've not seen the winston churchill movie. does it mention his starvation of the Bengali people / casual racism / shitty treatment of striking miners / gallipoli amongst other shortcomings or is it all "we'll fight them on the beaches" hagiographic guff?
-
• #13986
Yes that seemed a bit clumsy. I think Churchill did do incognito visits to public bomb shelters etc, if not trains though...

It's not much bigger than sitting in a fancy living room though. plus the room stays lit up like a Christmas tree when the films on.

It really only deals with the 1940 War Cabinet crisis. I think the whole films covers about 1 month. It touches on Gallipoli but not in detail.

You'll probably get what you're expecting. In my view it's pretty even handed. He's portrayed as a flawed and curmudgeonly old git who capable of charm and has the grit to face the reality of Nazi Germany. It captures the fact that war is as ugly as fuck and he stepped up where others wanted to appease. He was, whether you or I like it, exactly what we needed at a very difficult time.

Watched Berlin Syndrome last night (currently on Netflix)
Slow burner and quite creepy.
Enjoyable enough (if that's the right word) -

Really enjoyed Molly's Game. Extraordinary story, well told.

The word, I now realise, sadly, is 'Boutique'. I got it all to myself for a late showing of It Comes At Night. It was plenty dark enough then.

Enjoyed 'The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)' and it's on Netflix :)

I think maybe the walls being so close to the screen reflect too much light for my tastes. I don't like to see anything but the screen.
My gf loves the place though, I just feel like I might as well be watching at home.

horror flick Mom & Dad. Nicholas Cage somehow manages to overact even for himself. spends every second on screen gurning and twitching and behaving completely different to every single other person in the film also afflicted with what he picks up.

Miss Sloane (currently on prime video) was not bad, not normally a fan of political dramas, but this was entertaining enough, until the end when it got a little far fetched.
Also watched some Jamie Foxx thing where he is a bent copper and his son gets kidnapped. Utter balls, worth not seeing. (Completely forgotten it's name)
Curzon in Wimbledon's alright. Daytime shows its just you and the retired wealthy, who have impeccable manners.
