I guess less grain/smoother due to medium format rather than 35mm ?I feel like I should try out PanF/FP4/Delta 400, but as HP5 is the cheapest of the bunch and I'm not shy of setting black and white points in Lightroom to extend tonal range I'm not sure what the benefit will be.

..ah, I skipped the part where you said you shot it with the Nettar, hence medium format.. yea this explains it!
: ]I would say it's definitely a good idea to try out different film (and if poss keep the other things like camera / dev / scanning and also light you shoot in constant) to get a grip on what's happening.
